I didn’t like the first part of the episode at all.

Much more interesting second part, this time it’s Yamada who doesn’t recognise Sasaki 😂

I was about to say. This entire show is based on smoking; if bro get's cancer, the show is over🤣. Hang on, is this show one big campaign to advertise cigs? Yamada is also super nervous around him. I'm glad the emotions aren't one-sided. She isn't just teasing him.

OMDS THERE'S NO WAY THEY MET 8 YEARS AGO, AND HE PROTECTED HER. I wasn't expecting that flashback. No one remembers him and I'm assuming he remembers her otherwise, why would they show the flashback? This best progress in a good manner, unlike Rent-A-Girlfriend. If this is just more BS on top of BS I will eventually get mad. Unless it's like The Simpsons, then I'm chilling.

And there we have it, the end of the minisodes and Episode 6 of the TV ver.

What a way to cap off the first half of this season, and it makes sense for having some serious problem (i.e. Densesaki contemplating quitting) and Yamada's past (i.e. damn what a backstory). Tayama has been getting more emotional and cute with her faces, especially when Sasaki had his results back and finds out he doesn't have any problem with him, the pout on Tayama's face is golden. Also, we have a sighting of Yamada with a high school uniform!!!

So this is the type of story where MC1 finds out that MC2 is someone from their past and they just don't realize it now. There are some anime that comes to mind with this same setup, but nonetheless, this anime is smoking strong! And finally, all of us get to watch a new episode next week.

4:00 Tayama being sarcastic 🤭🤣

Let this be a lesson for you kids. Don’t smoke. If you already are, then stop.

9:00 aw, Yamada is sad no more smoking with Sasaki 🥲🤭 the boss’ instant attitude change tho when a customer showed up 🤣

10:40 damn she ran after him! 😯🤭

13:00 I fucking knew it 🤣🤣🤣 Yamada beating up him for nearly revealing the secret to him. So cute 🤭 they get to continue smoking together

14:50 wow 8 years ago? If she’s 24 now then she’s been working since high school 16 years old 😮

18:00 SASAKI TO THE RESCUE! 😯🙌🏻 Wow, I did not know they go this way back. Poor Yamada 🥲 but man the mom and the kid’s reaction behind 🤣🤣🤣 their eyes 👀

20:40 man Sasaki looked more scary back then 🤣

OMFG YAMADA DOESN’T REALIZE THAT WAS SASAKI 🤯 oh boy. Goes both ways 🤣 can’t wait to see once both sides find out.

Well, at least Sasaki isn't the only one that's dense as Yamada couldn't remember that her savior back when she was getting yelled at by the customer was him. On that note I think she would like him even more if she ever realized that was him, maybe down the road that will be discovered. Also, hopefully he will also discover that Yamada = Tayama as we almost found out in this episode.

I wonder if Sasaki seeing Yamada without her usual facade might remind him of that girl he talked to 8 years ago, since that was moreso what she looked like at the time. It was nice seeing him lock in and call out the rude customer; it wasn't as tuff or dramatic as these type of scenes usually are in romcoms, which made it feel more real. It's also made clear that he isn't a spineless mc, since none of the other customers were about to speak up.

To be fair, Sasaki got a health scare on his latest physical and the long term consequences for him are still ahead. Yamada is only 24, so her consequences are 25 years down the line.

But it went back to being a non issue for Sakaki. It's a worthless writting crutch to make everything go back to the status quo.

Yamada being younger it also means d*ck squat. The author isn't going to make an actual plot twist that would actually reflect on her abuse on nicotine, because it's audience want nothing but an insipid romance with no drama or real consequences.

This show is a massive smoking advertisement.

I’m so glad to see someone that doesn’t like this anime too. Like this is genuinely one of the worst animes I’ve seen and especially this ep was so bad.
Like there’s no mention of smoking being bad and this ep made it even worse, like a 45 y/o who is smoking for at least 8 years cannot have a perfectly fine body.
And everyone on here is relating to him too…

And sorry for answering so late, I watched the ep when it aired normally.

Another episode where I really enjoyed all the everyday stuff that this series has gotten me used to. The first part, with the annual checkup and Sasaki possibly having to quit smoking, really worked for me. For him, smoking is one of the few things that helps him deal with all the problems he has to put up with as a salaryman, and honestly, I found that really relatable.

It reminded me a lot of when I used to smoke. I also used to find a weird sense of peace in smoking, even though I know now that it wasn't really helping me. Eventually I realized there were other ways to deal with things, and thankfully I was able to quit.

I also really liked that Yamada almost revealed who she really is. I was worried for a moment that what was happening with Sasaki could somehow affect the relationship they've built, because I really like the way their relationship has developed. At this point, I just want Yamada to finally tell him the truth and see how things change once everything is out in the open.

The second half of the episode was great too, especially because we got to see a completely different side of Yamada from when she first started. And having worked in customer service before, I really understood that whole situation. Having a bad day is already enough, but then having someone else who is probably also having a bad day take it out on you, while you can't even answer back because you're at work, is just awful. Thankfully I don't have that kind of job anymore, but watching this actually brought back some memories I had pretty much buried.

One thing I really liked was that Yamada doesn't seem to remember Sasaki defending her back then, or at least the younger version of Sasaki that the episode showed us. I'm curious to see if there's more to that, because right now it feels like there's something missing between what happened back then and what we know about them now.

Maybe I'm overthinking it and it's something the series will explain later, but either way, it doesn't really change how much I'm enjoying this show. Week after week, it keeps proving why I've been enjoying it so much. It's easily my anime of the season, pretty much neck and neck with Ghost in the Shell. They're completely different kinds of shows, but honestly, I think this one might have even pulled ahead for me at this point.

Ironically, Yamada—who laughed that Sasaki wouldn’t recognize her—doesn’t remember him, although quite a bit of time has passed, and I, too, can only tell people apart by their voices. Still, it seems strange that he didn’t recognize others, like Yamada, even though they haven’t changed.

Loved this episode, it was nice seeing a different side of Yamada that we haven't seen before. Also as someone who's worked in a grocery store it'll never not be crazy to me to see how people will treat the workers especially the young ones like Yamada in this case. I will say the one thing I don't love is that this episode shows us Sasaki and Yamada met for the first time back when she was 16.. HOWEVER, I will say nothing about their relationship has ever been weird or predatory plus they don't even seem to remember each other from then so i can let it slide, but it's definitely a bit of a grey area.

Oh man, I loved this episode!!

I'm sorry for the people that followed the miniseries and had to wait until now, that must have sucked hahaha

Now for the episode, even tho I get a little annoyed every time tobacco is kind of romanticized in the show, and I would have loved to see what would happen if he had to at least try and stop smoking, I still loved the episode.

I loved how Yamada was having a hard time facing the moment of having to tell him the truth, and shows how much she really likes him. And even tho we don't really "know for sure" that the guy from the flashback is Sasaki, it is obviously HEAVILY hinted that it is him, so I choose to believe that it is indeed Sasaki, and I find it funny to see that she is kind of having the same problem that Sasaki has, not being able to see that the guy from back then is actually Sasaki, in the same way he can't tell that Yamada and Tayama are the same person.

I'm also not sure if the reaction from Sasaki would be as good as chief-san said. Maybe Sasaki would have reasons to be a bit hurt when he finds out that Tayama and Yamada are the same person, and not because he's disappointed to know Yamada is actually not the goddess he thinks she is, but because Tayama waited a lot to say it, and he might think he was messing with him and not being honest and a good "friend".

First half was super predictable, of course his exam made a mistake. Else he would have to stop smoking and the story would end.
Second half made me realize that Yamada is just as dense as Sasaki, since we all obviously know who that man back then was.

I discovered this anime by some Facebook publications, and I developed my curiosity. I watch in Crunchyroll the mini episodes and loved it. Obviously, like others said, I don't like smoke, but the fluidity of he episodes get me. They are very enjoyable to watch. So much that I watched twice and watched again now these completed episodes.

I liked so much so I start to buy the mangas. I really like stories that give you a good relax when you watch, like as a terapy. This last one has a little more charge, when we see how Yamada puts so much effort into something she likes and how she became nowadays, giving a interview because of her smile.

I'm really looking forward to the next episodes.

No doctor in the world would call you that late at night just to tell you that your diagnosis was wrong when it was just a simple health check-up, non-life threatening.
Also, ignoring all that, they still played it as a joke. I understand that Sasaki can still smoke because his health isn't that fucked up, but to say his organs are actually really healthy? Even tho he smokes packs of cigs daily, and they themselves said he was nothing than skin and bones? Naaah.

Customer service is not that deep bro 😂, also, who in the story of humanity has ever worked like this and said "I love this job", that was so funny ngl 🤣

Yamada makes fun of Sasaki for not realizing she and Tayama are the same person, yet she doesn't realize he and that guy 8 years ago are also the same person, ok.

Ohno-san is so cute 🥺, and I swear the Manager is legit the best character here, by far!

I know this is a slice-of-life series that naturally will prioritise a cozy atmosphere and tone over dealing with issues like the consequences of smoking, but they didn't need to make the plot armour that overt with the whole "very healthy organs" bit... But it is yet another piece of evidence that Sasaki is the goat.

Took me a second to realise that Yamada genuinely didn't remember who that guy was, since it seemed incredibly obvious from his mannerisms and way of speaking... I do hope they realise who each other are at some point, because this whole scenario they've got going can only be fun and enjoyable for so long imo.

Also I had no idea about the awful schedule, I've just been watching it weekly like a normal series xd

Even though I was FULLY bamboozled into thinking that the show took a quick turn into romance/drama instead of a comedy after the health check, we still got some backstory and some details about our mcs.
This got my usual dopamine reaction to seinens fully kicking in on this one aswell. If we start to touch serious themes, romance, and some drama touch, I think I might officially fuckin lose it! P.S. I find them so frickin funny

Happy for Sasaki that the health check-up results were a mix-up, although for something that serious they better have been super apologetic on the other side of the phone.
While having him quit would obviously be beneficial to his health, it's nice that he has his reason to continue being able to hang with Tamaya/Yamada. Hopefully she'll finally come clean to him by the end of the season.

Yamada doesn't exactly have much of an excuse to call Sasaki "Sa-slow-ki" anymore after that sequence from 8 years ago. Still remembers the guy yet can't realise it was Sasaki all along with his voice, hair and supportive attitude. Curious now though as to what changed for Sasaki so that his workwear wasn't so battered and he started combing his hair back. Likely just due to having to be more client-facing over the years if nothing major.

@Ronin-errante yah, she doesnt remember at all. She is just interested because she bonded with him and saw him as a good man with time, not that specific event. But if she ever finds out it was him, she would fall for him much quicker. And to be fair, if you work with people every day, you see so many faces, its very hard to remember their face, you remember the specific event, not the person itself. She "forgot" it was him, because he stop coming after their removed the place to smoke.

Im loving this show so much. And sadly that client, people may see it as a anime exaggeration, but sadly i know stuff like this by experience does happen in supermarkets, its not a anime exaggeration or only Japanese thing. And its funny, i found out when i was at her age working.

Also, i like how Japan even supermarkets are much more professional and the job is taken seriously, unlike in the west. Services to clients its really important in Japan.

The fakeout of Sasaki ending smoking which ofc wouldnt happen given the title of the show and stuff but was nice to see how much their relationship has grown and how much it means for Yamada, not wanting to lose it.

We got backstory in second half and man I want Yamada to find out/realise it was him so badly. The first scene of episode 1 also makes sense after this. Sasaki took out a cigarette out of old habit infront of the supermarket cause that's where he smoked back then but now it's a non smoke area.

I wish I liked the second half of the episode more than I did. Having the two lead characters meet in the past is such a boring and painfully overused cliche in anime that it greatly annoys me even if the logistics of their encounter in this case does actually make sense. Although neither character remembers and the face was obscured, it's quite clear to the audience that Sasaki was meant to be the guy who helped diffuse the situation and encourage her. Even so, I would've preferred that it was a genuinely random older guy who did all that.

This episode once again reminded me why I usually avoid this kind of slice-of-life romance

The status quo is NEVER, under any circumstances, allowed to change. Can't have character development in my anime

Him actually quitting smoking would've been a perfect way to move the relationship forward.
Instead of "we are only allowed to meet at the supermarket, and only to smoke together" one of them would have to make an effort asking the other to keep meeting in some other context. They live in the same area, it's not like they couldn't do anything else together

The resulting dynamic of him searching for a way to fill the void of not smoking, and her having to decide whether or not to smoke around someone that quit smoking/keep smoking at all would've been interesting.

But alas the average passive consumer zombie wouldn't be able to handle so much change, feel alienated and eventually stop watching/reading

Re-watching this it really does feel kinda weird that they did the addressing the issues with smoking midway through the season. Like that sort of thing feels like the thing that would come up right towards the end of the series as a major drama point which leads to major character relationship progress. (like Yamada confessing she's the one at the till). They are very cute afterwards though.

So he knows its unhealthy and has a cancer scare but because its all clean he can keep smoking? Good time to stop anyway, when you get the Big C diagnosis its too late to change. Got to keep the pair with their smoke breaks going though, should have just cut that section out and come up with a different idea.

Is the idea that he knew Yamada when she was 16 supposed to be a 'connection going that far back!' moment and not a creepy one? Not feeling it, think this is first episode I didn't care for.

Sasaki's health checkup was coming and he was worried about it. Then one day, he came to Tayama and told he had to quit smoking. She was actually depressed. Because she wouldn't be able to spend time with him. The chief told her to tell Sasaki the truth. She was able to tell the truth but a phone call interrupted. It said Sasaki's organs were good. Really? After this much smoking? Tayama was happy and now Sasaki would be able to spend time with her. But still smoking is a bad habit.

We got to see 16 years old Yamada. She was having a problem with a customer. I don't understand why the others didn't not stand against that customer for abuse. Sasaki stepped in and helped Yamada. He cry was unexpected. Her heart moved when she heard that Sasaki knew her efforts and appreciated it. But now, she doesn't know it was Sasaki. I think Sasaki also doesn't know it was Yamada. But Sasaki's appearance is the same. One has vision problem and the other has memory problem.
@REAL10 a mix of things: innocent bystander syndrome, Meiwaku where Japanese people want to avoid social confrontation so as to avoid disrupting Wa (social harmony), and – worst of all – “the customer is king” mindset like the customer is always right but worse: where the automatic assumption is the employee did something wrong and it’s a private matter between the business and the customer.

Even in a situation like this where say other customers might band together and tell the loud trash to STFU and get the hell out before they kick his ass, this unfortunately goes against certain aspects of Japanese culture. Thus, Sasaki shutting the trash up would be unusual.
