Even though Yokoya played this game really well, Akiyama still has a chance here. There's the next round and he's got that chance to make things right again.

Yokoya just continues to show himself as a complex man. Wonder what his true end goals are.

To be honest, I considered dropping this show early on, mainly because of Nao. But I stuck with it for one reason, the potential for CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. And behold, Nao has saved Akiyama from a complete defeat, that’s my goat right there, what a legend.

I am also curious about the next game as well, I’m imagining it’s not literal Russian roulette but it’s still quite an intimidating concept. I’ve been waiting for a proper one-on-one game here for a while though so I’m excited to see all of their individual styles of strategy as well as just how far Nao has come.

Liar Game is one of the few anime that keep getting better and better instead of getting worse like most anime.

I really hope this anime adapt the whole manga, and the sequel manga too.

What an amazing arc that was, really makes me scared that we'll never get to this quality level ever again in this show, the new loser round seems interesting enough for now even if i hate that fukunaga is still here, wish it was Yokoya in his place or that red hair guy that decided to keep playing.

Nao sticking it up to that ratboy was so satisfying. She's come a long way from the weakling who was this close to making people drop the show with her antics. I'm really starting to like Yuji as well with his nice character development.

GIVE ME MORE LIAR GAME.

That was a great moment when Nao stood up to Yokoya and hit him right in the pride.
By the way, is Fukunaga a cross-dresser or trans? I don't mean to sound discriminatory, just curious.

As awesome as Nao's defiance against Yokoya was, I still couldn't help but crack up at her grumpy little >:( face throughout the entire thing. The Akiyama slander would not stand.

Hearing about how they moved Akagi enough for him to voluntarily stick around as a longer term ally was sweet, not to mention becoming cool (or at least a bit) with Fukunaga.

Nice of Mr Fake Lawyer to drop round to give Nao the lowdown lol. There is something kind of inscrutable about him but I feel like he is genuinely rooting for Nao. Trying to imagine what it would be like to be in this situation irl. Absolutely terrifying I should think. Stay strong Nao!

It's finally here! The best game(s) in the manga are about to begin!!

I had my doubts when it was revealed that this revival round would be adapted as part of S1 since Contraband was such a good place to leave things, but now that we're here I'm super happy they chose to adapt this part!

Finally got some emotion out of Akiyama, and Nao showing up Yokoya is so goooooood!! Queen Fukunaga back with another killer outfit too, there is no end to the buffet here!

Can't wait for next week already~
The 2002 Tokyo Mew Mew adaptation is not as great as you remember it being.

I did question why Yokoya didn't figure out his team were behind in round 3, but this makes sense now.

Can't believe Yokoya fell for Nao's bait, those mice didn't deserve that, did we ever find out why he even has them? But he'd want to keep playing more games anyway, since he likes controlling people.

They could tell me anything about how they won and how much money they got and I would just be like "whatever" at this point. And the ridiculous reasons they keep making up to keep them playing especially the trans guy are getting pretty lame. I'll finish this but it's just not as enjoyable as I thought or hoped it would be.

It seems to be left ambiguous. "Newhalf" is the word used in the Japanese script.

The animation isn’t the prettiest thing ever, but it’s so well told that it’s easy to overlook when it doesn’t look its best. The first 8 or so episodes are rough with how unlikable Nao is, but I’m so glad I decided to stick with it.

I'm curious as to how Russian Roulette is going to work within the Liar Game, presumably they're not going to use a real gun and bullets but as it's largely a game of chance I don't see how you can use deception or tactics to win it. I am glad though that this next game seems smaller in scope compared to Contraband. The contraband game was fun but with so many players involved it made it difficult to get attached to any of them. With a smaller cast, I can see this arc having a stronger emotional core than the previous game had.

Hold the freaking phone, you’re telling me Nao lied? Holy smoking cow W Nao, that was cool of her lol, honestly that would be the best time to lie, she successfully gaslit Yokoya into staying in the game so they can take his winnings back. And not only that, Nao owned Yokoya with the whole control thing too, I had completely forgotten he even said that so I’m glad she remembered lol, it ended up being the perfect comeback to Yokoya’s attempt to make himself seem like the winner in all of this, and it also saved Akiyama a bit too since he fucked up in that regard.

And that led to the scene where Akiyama showed a more vulnerable side of himself, it was a good emotional moment, it showed that the great Akiyama isn’t an impenetrable wall and has his own flaws, and it had me feeling bad for Nao too who wanted to help Akiyama but couldn’t. And that takes us to the next game, honestly it’s kinda crazy to finally be entering a new one since we’ve been in the Contraband Game since June lol, but that makes it even more exciting!

And the game in question is for the Losers Revival, and it’s a potential three games with the way it’s set up with two teams of three facing each other one on one, kinda wild they aren’t explaining any of the game rules before the roles in each team were decided, but we’ve already been teased with the first game, and it’s 24 Round Russian Roulette, which already sounds pretty daunting but I don’t think anyone will be dying here, this would become a much different show really fast if so lol.

Decent episode. The first half of the episode felt like a finale, whilst the second half felt like the first episode of a second season, haha. Either way, I gotta say, Nao blushing after Shinichi told her that he'd protect her no matter what was a cuteness overload.

I have a comment and a question, though. First, I felt that the opposing team this time was a bit underwhelming, so I'm honestly failing to see how this game or the next couple of episodes will be entertaining at all, although I know it's a bit early to judge.

My question, though, is regarding the Country of Day and the Country of Night. What happened to the rest of the Country of Day's team? What happened to the Country of Night's team, including the three traitors, aside from Bandana? I think I missed it if they said it.

Nao: Passenger entire game. Then makes grand speech at the end.
Same thing happened last few games. Nothing has changed.

NGL, this next game feel way less hype. Every game before was larger than the last. This one feels like the gas running out. It'll only be 4 episodes.

@Skuvan I guess different games, different taste and some new infos. I think most of the people get out of the game after having their debt zeroed, except night team who have to move forward to the next game.

Who would have thought that there would come a day when Nao becomes the Master of bluffs and would become someone for Akiyama to rely on ?! 💖

Yokoya's pride really made him fell for Mao's deception and he's entering the game again LOL..
Hanae Natsuki really killed it with his voice for Yokoya ❤️‍🔥

Fukunaga is back in her feminine outfit 😘

Excited for the next game.. it's gonna be a Short one I guess since only a few episodes are left or maybe they might end it in a cliffhanger for the next season.

Great arc as expected. Not really sure what the reception on this is domestically but it'd be sick if we get a season 2. Pandemic Game and Musical Chairs animated would even be more peak.

For now though, back to pretty solid 3-game stretch

Anyway since we talked about it we seem to have 4 episodes left for revival round if pocket recorder rumors were correct and we in fact have 24 EP. This EP mostly contraband transition + hangcliffer. Lets wait for russian roulette is it going to be rubber bullets or brains out?

Nao brutally hurt the pride of Yokoya and made him apply for the 4th round cuz they really hv to snatch every single penny from him.

This revival game looks pretty brutal as well.

Nao trusted the other team player but Fukunaga applying for the revival game was the most shocking thing for her. LOL!!

@earth_worm3 Fukunaga was in the Day Team who lost in 3rd account amount. So if Fuku wants to continue, she has to go through the next revival round too. There were not enough money to cover everyone so Akiyama and Nao decided to go in the red (debt) to be able to cover everyone in Day Team + the 3 night traitors.

NAO’S BLUFF IS LIAR GAME AT ITS BEST.

REVIEW: Liar Game Episode 20 | 8.5/10 ⭐

Episode 20 works because Nao does not win by becoming another Akiyama. She wins by turning the quality Liar Game has always treated as her weakness into the perfect disguise. Everyone believes her because Nao is the last person they expect to lie.

That reversal only lands because Yokoya first earns a real victory. His hidden profit gives him a genuine counter-win and forces Akiyama to face the compromise inside his own plan. The tight close-ups, the purple pressure surrounding Yokoya and Akiyama’s silence make the balance of power feel settled before Nao calmly steps into the space he leaves behind.

She does not beat Yokoya with a bigger calculation. She attacks his idea of control, points to the followers who betrayed him and claims she has found a way around the debt trap. Her steady expression against his growing anger makes the lie completely believable. I bought every word, which is why “That was a lie. A bluff!” hits with such force. Twenty episodes of honesty suddenly become the reason her deception works.

The reveal is more than a clever surprise. Nao targets Yokoya’s pride so he will return with the money needed to help the remaining players. The bluff works because she understands him well enough to make losing unbearable. Then the quieter bench scene turns toward Akiyama, whose shame over manipulating the defectors keeps the victory from feeling morally simple. Nao refuses to treat his choices as equal to Yokoya’s cruelty, and for once she is the one who gives him a way forward.

The long explanation of the next game is clear, but its monitors and held reactions cool the momentum after such a sharp peak. That does not weaken what the episode leaves behind. Nao has finally taken control without abandoning who she is, and Liar Game has rarely made character growth feel this satisfying.

DIRECTION 8/10 | PRODUCTION 8/10 | WRITING 9/10 | IMPACT 9/10
