If you’re planning to watch this, stop right there. Don’t soil your eyes in whatever this anime has to offer.
It contains SA, and unfortunately was not handled well. SA is much more complex and heavy to be lumped as just a character backstory. The effects of it run deep and does not stop even if the victim is away from his/her abuser. It is indeed a compelling reason to leave home but do not use it as a mere explanation for it. someone’s reality. Heavy subjects must be dealt with caution and detail, otherwise it would hurt and may invalidate the people actually going through it.
It’s also uncomfortable watching Yuka and Lucy/Nyu trying to get that Kohta. Yuka is so smitten by her cousin that she actually says cringy and incomprehensible lines. I wish she was done better.
Only Mayu is safe. Her character was not that fleshed out but she’s the normal one among them. Maybe if she was done right I’d stay for her.
Lucy/Nyu did not do anything wrong because god knows what transpired in that facility and what the heck is its purpose and significance to the society. Lucy’s kind might be a threat to humanity but that is not enough to restrain them and do whatever experiments the males wanted in their verse. The amount of violence inflicted towards women employees is just unnecessary too.
With Nyu’s nudity almost every episode and copious fan service, anyone behind me would think I’m watching an explicit content. It almost feels like an episode wouldn’t be complete without an unnecessary show of her breasts. What statement were they trying to convey with it?
I’m all for women serving males what they deserved so I stayed halfway, but this is unbearable. It’s dripping with patriarchy. Lucy/Nyu could have been more, and a better influence, considering that many people started anime because of this.
Watch at your own risk if you plan to.

This anime feels ahead of its time. A friend group that is not mostly male, women with different personalities and character design, and just astonishing colorful animation. The grief of losing a loved one and how it’s different from everyone is perfectly captured.
Even though it has progressive concepts, it still has some weak areas. First, I absolutely hate the love polygon. Why can’t they be just platonic childhood friends? for her than at least it’s for everyone. Third, I’m mad that she did not visit her family or did something for them. She visited only once. I know she loves and adores her family so much so it does not make sense that she only hangs around with Jintan. Lastly, I don’t like how everything revolves around Jintan. They glaze him so much I’m crying.
Also, the cause of her death was not clear. Did she drown? It’s funny that the whole issue is her death yet we don’t know what really caused it. The cause would’ve also enlightened us why they blame themselves so much.
On another note, objectively, Menma and Jintan can be together. They can see and feel each other. Menma can also touch stuff. I guess she’s a loli poltergeist. They can’t be legally entwined but I don’t think Jintan minds. But it was a good thing they didn’t, I would’ve hated him more if that happened.
Anohana is a good watch for people experiencing grief or wants to understand.

Absolute horror experience. Watched this at 1am with headset on and I’ve never understood horror anime until then. My cabinet opening on its own with a creaky sound almost gave me a shock. The voice actors especially Misaki’s was exceptional.
That said, it would have been peak if the story was developed more and added lores with the characters. The premise was very interesting – it made me remember those high school horror stories I used to watch and read as kid. waste of potential. If done right, Misaki wouldn’t be the only one glazed in this anime.
Still, this gets a recommendation to me because the horror elements were spot on.

Nice concept, but wrong stories. That’s how I see it. The only arc I liked and kept my attention is with Mayu.
The mystery was not enough to keep my interest. The characters where the mystery revolved were pretty bland and I’m not that nosy to care for uninteresting characters. Sure, the fate of those who came to Quindecim were tragic but it lacks the nuances to make the audiences feel and empathize the tragedies. The attitude who came there feels the same but with different issues.
The games were also unexciting. Maybe it didn’t really help that the audiences know that life’s not really at stake

in those games. I never found myself rooting for anyone in any of those games, not even for Kurokami. The only consolation I guess is that the setting is stunning, but I like Ginti’s bar more.
If you’re in for games and suspense, go to the recommendations of this. If you want to be sad, this is also not the one.

Mixed feelings because I’m torn about how to feel with Sakuta. He both makes good and questionable remarks. Aside from that, I’m not a fan of nonchalant men like that.
Putting that aside, his and Mai’s relationship dynamics is so ideal. They are literally perfect for each other. They both make an effort to understand each other, meet each’s needs, and help one another. I wish highschool relationships were really like that. They’re so soulmate-coded. I wish there were more moments of them.
Maybe I was lightheaded or overall not feeling well since I don’t follow the logic behind the paranormal or physics happening in the show.

Still, it’s fine since it’s fiction and the happenings were used to flesh out the characters. Koga’s self-consciousness and identity crisis is so relatable. I was both mad and empathetic with her with ‘that’ date. Futaba experiencing syndrome herself and them helping her showed the depth and strong bonds of their friendship – that the friendship was not there to add character for the mc but they actually formed it, it made it real. I was also glad that her and Kunimi’s thing reached a quiet conclusion. Mai and her sisters body swap was a surprised since first I didn’t expect her to have a sister and another phenomenon happened to her. But it turned out to be a good thing since they patched up and became real sisters.
And Kaede… I did not know what happened to her was that deep and scarring. I found myself cheering for her as she tried and practiced going out, listing her little goals in that diary. Sakuta being there, always guiding her, and supporting her improvement, it was heartwarming. That’s why I really get his breakdown when she disappeared.
But welcome back, Kaede, I guess. At least now she’s mentally healthier. Her mind decided it was finally safe to go back.
I may or may not continue to the sequel. But I’m curious with Shoko though…

Err... kinda confusing to me. Some twists don't make sense. The only I loved and had my full attention was that pink girl and blue guy's confession. It was so cute. I thought that girl was just a comic relief but she also has serious past life reason's why she's so full of energy. I would have also loved to know the past lives of others. That kid who calls himself Christ, the vice president who claims to be god, the udon lover, English speaking dancer, the femboy, and the other band members... hmm... this anime could have been longer.

No no no...
That was mostly my thoughts while watching this movie through the end. At first, it was so nice. I always wandered what happened to that little girl she wrote 50 letters for. And what a big time-skip, we got to see her granddaughter instead of her. But I’m so happy to know that the company became a museum instead of fading in the history. She took us down the memory lane.

already foretold since his corpse was not really found, and I’m actually also happy that he’s alive. The first person that treated Violet as human is alive, of course that’s totally a great news. The problem lies with him ending up with Violet.
The movie painted Violet and Gilbert’s ‘love’ story sweetly and without malice that if I had watched this 2-3 years ago, I would definitely add Violet Evergarden to my number 1 romance anime. Good thing I’ve changed. According to my google search, he is 15 years older than Violet. She is a minor when they met. Yes, that’s not a hidden fact. Violet was basically shown being so little and that she was cared by Gilbert without ill-intentions and did not took advantage of the fact that he can order her around. These circumstances made me think that ‘I love you’ was not of romance but of a paternal or brotherly figure. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
It’s so revolting that the innocent relationship between Gilbert and Violet turned out to be that. Age gaps did not matter in the settings of the story, and neither it does to Violet. All the people around them were also supportive. And maybe they also lived happily together after then. But I still can’t shake the disgusting thought that he saw a lover in that child he sheltered and named.
Maybe if they met again and had speeches about how grateful they are for each other instead of that confession, and then she lived there, and then that was the time he saw her as woman and Violet in turn saw him as man, and then they inevitably fall for each other at that time and age, maybe it would be more acceptable. Just maybe.

This movie was not centered on Violet but it's still a good one. Violet developing friendship outside of her work circle was very much welcome and refreshing. I just wished she and Amy really did reconnect at the end.
Taylor's character was so cute. I'm so happy she got adopted by the Evergarden family and will fulfill her dream. She's a ball of sunshine in that winter.
We got to see more of Benefit... and dang, what a baddie. Have you seen those heels? I would love to be friends with him and strut on the streets with those heels. I'm happy he was cheered up
...
with Taylor's presence.

I tried to hold back my tears. Dang, I really tried but the stories were just too melancholically beautiful. Violet Evergarden was a package of emotions, stirring something within. A slice of life that offers empathy and tears rather than the usual gags and laughter.
It's just kind of hard to believe that she's just 14 years old in this series. She does not look like it. A character that is not that curvy and perfect looking would have been nice, considering that she's an ex-military who've been through everything. Anyway, her dress is so chic.

The art is absolutely stunning. This masterpiece radiates calm and comforting, perfect for a rest after a long, tiring day. Chihiro’s kindness and bravery feel refreshing after a day of adult shenanigans and bustles of life. I was just mindlessly picking a film to watch as I eat my cold meal but was unexpectedly immersed by their colorful, beautiful world. Every character is quirky and adorable.
I love that the witch is evil and greedy but has a tender spot for her big baby. I love that the baby is whiny and spoiled but he was just really lonely and longs to play with others.

I love that the Yubaba’s bird unexpectedly became the Baby’s company. It was funny and heartwarming when Yubaba’s bird got tired of flying, the Baby carried her on his back and walked. He really just loves to be flown but doesn’t mind carrying her too. It’s very lovely that they can go back to the way they look but both chose to stay on that form. They also have other cute moments too, literally living in the background as the movie goes.
Lin is an overlooked lovely character. At first I thought she was just bribed to take care of Chihiro, turns out she genuinely cares for her. She looks out for her and teaches her like a sister. She may be hard at times but it comes from a good place. It's hard to imagine that she might also be a human before and Yubaba stole her name. Lin sounds simplistic and similar to Sen. Makes me wonder if that's really her name.
I love No Face too. He was another lonely spirit enamored by Chihiro’s kindness. I have a theory about him. He often seeks company to every creature he chances upon and would learn the things they often want, hence why he crafts fake gold that is so realistic even Yubaba was fooled. So when Chihiro refused that mountain of gold, he went full on crash out. Somehow, his ephemeral journey with Chihiro taught him that he does not have to offer the most prized possession in order to be accepted.
Spirited Away is a good child’s movie. And a restful one for a weary adult.
