What I liked:
The music animation is well done — all the fingerings and gestures of the musicians are realistic and faithfully replicated in the anime
The music is great, I especially love the opening and ending
The animation is detailed and beautiful, even if it's sometimes a bit jerky
The personal stories of the band members are explored, which makes it easier to know who's who
What I didn't like:
With all these girls from two different bands, it's difficult to know who's who, especially since they have nicknames too
...

I read this manga as part of the Manga Reading Challenge, which had an item requiring a manga set in space. 46 volumes — it's long, but I finished it.
The drawings are good and the characters are easy to recognize. Story-wise, there are some interesting twists that keep you on the edge of your seat. But overall, I found myself bored at times, particularly when things became too technical. I didn't enjoy the incessant flashbacks, and the cliché of the two brothers doing incredible things together took away some of the realism. The "everyone is kind to each other" aspect between the various nationalities can feel ...

I had heard rumours about this anime, and read a few reviews that made me fear the worst before watching this first season. And I was actually very pleasantly surprised! Each episode made me want to watch the next one.
The animation is very good apart from a few slightly sloppy monster animations, the colours are varied, and the artwork and backgrounds are magnificent. The lore is extremely rich in diversity and creativity: the monsters, the peculiar characters. 9/10 The characters each have their own backstory and are very consistent in their behaviour. The only issue is the use of young children as protagonists, and seeing them ...

This sequel to Steins;Gate is indeed darker and more melancholic. Okabe isn't the same anymore, which makes sense given the story.
The characters are endearing and still have their quirks, even if we hear Mayuri's "Tuturu" less often. There's occasional fan service, but not too much. The animation is flawless with beautiful colors. The music is better in my opinion than the first installment, with beautiful piano and orchestral pieces. The story is convoluted — I don't like stories involving time travel, because it immediately short-circuits my brain; it's already a temporal paradox, even if being on parallel lines helps salvage the logic. Read for the MRC Challenge 2026: it was a long read, but a worthwhile one.
Sometimes I laughed out loud, but more often I laughed internally at the absurd situations. The chapters were short, so it's easy to pick up and put down the manga. What I regret is the lack of an overarching story, which makes it easy to read but I personally prefer long-form narratives. There were times when I was bored; I didn't really like the sumo arc or the meetings of the four (who are actually five). Another high school setting, but in this anime it feels peculiar, because we often see the student council room instead of the classrooms.
Concerning the emotions, I found it funny at times, and occasionally a bit touching when Kaguya was moved by Shirogane's actions. I was sometimes irritated by the repetitive setting, Fujiwara's behavior, and the way the two main protagonists can't bring themselves to talk to each other... but you have to take into account the immaturity and lack of experience that come with the characters' age. What emotions did I feel while watching Toradora? Well different ones. It didn't move me to tears, even during the most emotional scenes. Sometimes it was funny, especially when the characters react in a WTF way, in a quirky way: some of Minori's acting, some of Kitamura's laughs. I was bored sometimes too. And I felt confused multiple times, when I didn't understand the reactions of the characters, their behaviour, their motives.
This confusion made me wonder why I had difficulty forming an opinion on this anime. Because there are some good things and some things I didn't appreciate. The animation is nice and colorful. The music is ...

The movie was released nearly 30 years ago, so the animation feels outdated. The male characters have heads similar to those of the Cowboy Bebop guy, with sinister faces — as though all men are evil. I also didn't like the face of Rumi (the eyes were so far from each other!)
It's amusing to see the old CRT screens and the old phones. The story holds up well for just 80 minutes, but I did find myself bored at times. I still don't fully understand some of the things that happened — what is real and what is not; I know that is the point of the ...

This theme is particularly close to my heart, so I'm not entirely impartial on this one.
The animation is beautiful and colorful, the characters are cute, especially Nishimiya. The music perfectly fits each situation and was composed by the same composer who did the score for Chainsaw Man. The story has some flaws, but then again it's an anime and a work of fiction — it's common to see behavioral inconsistencies in the actions of the characters. Sometimes I wanted Nishimiya to be more confident in herself and stand up for herself (but she does do that later on), and sometimes I wanted Ishida to pull himself together, ...

These 4 episodes were necessary for me to get the real ending, similar to the manga.
They focus more on the main characters, Kaizaki and Hishiro. That's what I wanted to see, because it took all the previous episodes to build up the tension between them. The music was better, with other instruments. There was good use of recurring themes, adapted to the situations. The animation was similar to the TV series, with better colors and variations in the scenery. The last 2 episodes were very good in conveying the emotions of the characters: they reminded me why I loved the manga. |
