Another, can be best described as an horror anime which tries to do so much, but the execution of the anime is sadly lacking which feels like it falls short. Another is an anime which uses a mix of horror and mystery to tell a story about a class which is being killed one by one, while a new student Koichi is introduced to this dark world and school, and meets a girl called misaki, who might be real or not.

3 episodes, the mystery and beautiful score and nice animation makes up for it. In ways the first 3 episodes are the best..but slowly when the series goes on that mystery feels thrown out the window and the characters become more bland and uninteresting, with a story which in ways feels like it tries, but sadly the characters are the reason for the story to work.
The story itself is good, it feels like 2 story in 1 a mystery about a girl and who this Misaki person and the second part being a story about stopping a curse which is killing students. In ways the story while seems messy does connect, but saying that. The story does feel like it throws so much ideas in 12 episodes that it feels like it's balancing a bit much. This includes the mystery and how to stop the curse, with one episode exploring the idea of the curse and how it affects anyone who leaves the city. In ways while It does try it best to balance both, it feels lost. The ending also, while cool idea, feels messy and in ways feels unachieved and just kind of shallow, which will leave the audience head scratching.
Saying that the characters, except 2 are really bland. It feels like they are cookie cutter of characters you have seen before..and while some might get attached, it feels like the characters are at best interesting, but never expanded on and at worst forgettable people who are there to be killed of. While some characters are fine and some like Misaki there are to expand the story same with reiko. All the other characters don't feel like they do anything to me at all..and come of quite forgettable.
The tone also, is wild. An example of this comes from episode 3..which the first 3 episodes are great mystery episodes and when episode 3 ends..it feels like you watched and different scene from a different show. And throughout then it becomes a mess of a show where it has overtop deaths and at same time doing that while being serious. It comes of quite tone deaf and in ways makes the show more laughable than being serious.
Saying that though, there is some good stuff. The animation while looks bland, at times looks nice, this includes the city and world, which even after those 3 episodes tries to bring an creepy atmosphere like it was advertised, and the sound design is excelent. each crunch and sound is amazingly well done, which at times actually made me jump and shiver just by it alone and the score, while not perfect, is nice which uses quiet ambient music and when things get serious becomes quite tense. While I won't remember the music, at least it helps to try and bring the spookiness.
Overall another is a show which tries, but sadly falls on its face at the third episode where it becomes a tonally messy, but somewhat entertaining moments with ideas which sounding great on paper sadly don't work because of the way execution or how the characters sadly are written.

Eden of the east, or higashi no Eden, has always been on my mind to check out. There was a lot of interesting things already before I watched it. Idea that we are following a character who has amnesia and a mix of scifi and mystery helped me to already Connect..saying that though this show..is quite excellent.
Taking place in "modern day" Japan, we follow Takizawa, a mysterious boy, who has lost his memories. With this he meets saki, a Japanese girl who was on holiday at America. With this they work together not only a mystery in Japan but who Takizawa was before
...
he lost his memories. With this, Takizawa only has two things, a phone and a mission to save the world. The premise while simple..does get complicated and I can't lie, while I really love the premise, I did kind of get lost because, the premise is strong the massive of flaw of this anime is that, side characters and saki are sadly out on the side line for most of the story, with Takizawa feeling more important.
That's not a bad thing though, but Takizawa story is very interesting, it hard to not spoil the twist with him, but the red hearings and genuinely great narrative, really make him interesting. While Saki sadly put on the side lines, when she actually is important, it sweet and her friends while I didn't like them at first, they do play a big role in the story. They kind of feel unique and kind of shine at times. They feel kind of how the audience feels..with them trying to learn more about Takizawa like us.
The villains themselves are very mysterious, and like every mystery serious there kept under wraps. there pretty interesting, while they are connected to the fun game, I kind go like the twist it make Takizawa much more interesting and while I wish the villains were more in-depth, it helps to make Takizawa...more fleshed out and I kind of like these villains. I don't know if it because I'm a sucker for these kind of characters but even the early "antagonists" are great the idea that they want to target Takizawa, I wish they fleshed more of the game and characters out.
The story also, has a great bit of humour and most of time it does not affect, the dramatic scenes and helps to makes the character more likeable. The comedy does stop however, so it can focus more on the drama. It helps to keep this show very interesting.
On that though, the animation is gorgeous.. while nothing special with how they movie, the art style is fricken amazing. It pops out really well and the character designs are nice. The animation in movement though, like I said is nothing special but at times it pops with the unique nice art style of the studio.
In conclusion, I love this show even with its flaws, and not having enough time with the characters . I think at times I wish the show was more than 11 episodes so they could work on the characters. Saying that I think at the end this series is excellent and I can't wait to watch the movies in future to hang out more with these characters.
