Synopsis

There is nowhere that Seon Jin can find solace. At school, he is ruthlessly bullied due to his unsettlingly quiet nature and weak appearance. However, this is not the source of Jin's insurmountable terror: the thing that he fears more than anything else is his own father.

To most, Jin's father is a successful businessman, good samaritan, and doting parent. But that is merely a facade; in truth, he is a deranged serial killer—and Jin is his unwilling accomplice. For years, they have been carrying out this ruse with the police being none the wiser. When his father takes an interest in the pretty transfer student Yoon Kyun, Jin must make a decision—be the coward who sends her to the gallows like all the rest, or be the bastard of a son who defies his wicked parent.

Bastard is originally a webtoon which was officially published in paperbook format by Dream Sodam (소담출판사) in 2017.

The series was published digitally in English by LINE Webtoon from June 8, 2015, to March 20, 2017. It has been published in print by Seven Seas Entertainment since May 6, 2025.

I've just finished this, it's 4 in the morning and I need to express the immense enjoyment I had whilst reading this. Over the 3 days I've read Bastard, it has literally prevented me from doing revision as the story has just kept me glued to page after page, thinking that I'll finish reading at a certain time but ending up spending hours reading.

The overall story is very simplistic yet very surreal, as the synopsis doesn't give away that much, I don't want to give away spoilers as to who the serial killer is but you find out straight away, so the action happens fast. ...

While writing this review I find myself in a position of affliction. Every limb of my literary body tears and rends its bones separate from the whole, in a combative wave of dissonance Bastard is wonderful. Bastard is awful. Bastard is ecstasy. Bastard is Bastard.

I am here to set the record straight on this series. The most unfortunate and unnecessary problem with Bastard is its ever-present reliance on bad writing tricks and hypnotic acts dependent on the ignorance of the reader. middest mid ever which is worse than horrible. do no waste your time on this. i have actually no idea how this has an 8.54 at the time of writing and how this is the first not recommended review. do not be fooled it is boring as sin. mal won't let me leave as short as a review as i want so i'll go on: the characters go nowhere, nothing means anything, the story tried hard enough to tug at a heart string and reached nothing even though i get emotional over anything. there is nothing appealing about this except that the art is kind ...
