Ye, this more of a glorified poker game. Joker is pretty much the main weapon of this game.

Nao should've prepared better. There's mind games going on here but for what's worth, this poker game required strategy, manipulatio, luck, etc.

I was starting to like Nao, her charater was becoming better, and then everything collapses with this poker game. First the simulation and then the way she was overjoyed with Akiyama winning twice in a row. This was awful.

I hope more people notice Nao begin to change, not sure for better or for worse. She seems disappointed that she can't find a cheating way to win the game.

Decent episode. The way the dealer kept saying "open" so aggressively was pretty hilarious, haha. Either way, am I the only one who watches this anime just because I enjoy the reactions, even though I don't understand sh!t? It reminds me of the details of COTE's tests, haha.

@Stark700 Yes, but Poker is also always about the Bluff as well. Interestingly, I've never played a variety that allowed for the use of the jokers. We always fished them out. Other cards were wild.

@Reiaa Not sure, but this could be an act to scope out the other team. Always a good idea.

The way the dealer said Seventeen Poker was so cool and explanation was easy to understand, such that we can understand the stakes.

Akiyama may not possess the same speed but he doesnt have to, he can still get a clear idea of where the Joker card is by paying attention to the number of cards his opponent wants to cut since its safe to assume that the opponent ALWAYS wants the Joker to end up in his initial stack😭

I'm almost certain of the fact that Akiyama picked up on the fact that his opponent kept paying close attention to the dealer as he shuffled the cards so yeah i think he's simply trying to come up with a way to make it seem like he has winning stacks DESPITE the fact that he doesn't have a joker

Looks like Nao was still living off of the high from fooling Fukunaga with marked cards way back at the Downsizing game lol.

A surprise boxer in a Madhouse anime reminded me how much I yearn for a new Hajime no Ippo season.

Amazing episode as always. Did you know that
Even the brain damage from constant head beating and Alzheimer's can't stop them.
Btw i have an idea for the rule to the Liar Game: if you breathe dealer gets the chips. Sounds fair?

I seriously started learning poker because of Liar Game, the things this manga/anime have done for me cannot be understated~
The 2002 Tokyo Mew Mew adaptation is not as great as you remember it being.

there's no way you sit so close to the dealer and you can take a peek lol, but I am sure Akiyama would be about to figure out what's going on

@Skuvan same, I don’t really fully get poker I played it maybe 4 times in my life with my brothers but even with the rules explained I Lwk forgot. But it’s easy to understand if you look up what cards are which full house, etc… I don’t have them memorize cus I don’t play card games. I think poker is easy when I played it. I will win maybe few times against my brother who was more experienced than me. So it’s a friendly game to get into in my opinion. Very simple. But I’m just slow to understand this game poker cus it’s different but I do know joker is op. Also I have the kinda same experience with cote but with very few games most of the time is easy to understand if you fully read the rules carefully.

@Dark_whatever that’s what I’m saying he can easily counter attack if he figures out the dude. I know he will, Cus Akiyama the goat.

Okay, that boxer dude got really lucky with his game then cos even if Akiyama does figure out the trick he's using (which he probably already has) and that the cards always start in the same position, it won't matter if he doesn't have the same level of vision to keep up with it in the shuffle. It seems this game will be quite troublesome after all, I'm excited to see how Akiyama will manage clearing this one

Turns out Nao did not know when to hold ‘em, or when to fold ‘em, because she fumbled the practice round of 17 Poker hard, well she may be having a character arc but that doesn’t mean she’s gonna be good at poker lol. But then the real game began, and with it came a seemingly full proof plan that only Akiyama’s opponent, Kikuchi, can use. And the plan in question involves using Kikuchi’s own really good vision which he used in boxing (ngl I didn’t take this guy for a boxer lol, don’t judge a man by his glasses I guess) to track the joker in the deck of cards, it took a couple rounds to find out where it is, but once he did, it’s already proved to be effective by winning him a round.

Now while this isn’t looking good for Akiyama, I imagine he’ll find some way to counter it, no idea how tho at the moment, I just know he probably will because otherwise we wouldn’t already know Kikuchi’s trick, I don’t think they’d reveal his entire plan if it was actually full proof. But hey, that’s part of what makes this game exciting!

I was hoping to see more of Nao this episode, given her boast of being good at poker last episode but we only really got to see her practice round where she was thrashed and then the Spearhead game was skipped entirely to put Akiyama centre stage again. I'm also not sure I'm entirely sold on the explaination for the boxer guy "I have excellent kinetic vision so I can keep track of all the cards" it feels strangely power creepy given this series is fairly grounded for the most part.

You got it wrong. He's keeping track of a single card.

@PeboYAH That's the thing. I fully agree with you. Most of the time, it's easy to understand if you read the rules carefully. It's just that I like to turn my brain off whilst watching anime and chill, which is why I don't really read anything carefully and just go along with it, haha.

VA for Fukunaga has been repeating her incredulous scream every time it comes to Nao

There are only 17 cards in the deck. Just throw out 5 cards and force your opponent to change only two.

Oh no, how will they ever counter his ability to follow cards? You'd think they would use a mechanical shuffler. And no way Nao does anything but get steamrolled this game, she is almost as dumb as she is naieve.

I wonder if Akiyama has a plan. He is good at playing psychological games, but this seems it doesn't have room for that.
