Does anyone think Fuyumura could be a Fae descendant — her tall, androgynous appearance and quiet, detached nature fitting that of a Winter Fae? Maybe at some point she’ll have to choose her gender, a moment that would finally define her physical form and essence.

What the heckie is going on? The whole arranged marriage/FORCED BIRTH thing is fekked up I don't blame Ohno for running away. Moreover, they're not allowed to sleep now?? Sleeping makes them huge??? Since when???? Sanda was sleeping (knocked out) just the other episode and nobody made a fuss over it?? p.s. Sanda's "fiance" is super cute and Saburo is the ossaniest ossan.

@Beatrice-KF You really need to do more research if you think puberty doesn't exist before 14 in japan, I won't waste another reply on you.
@LostSpectre Remind me why we're having this discussion again ? Oh right, people were raising a fuss because they wanted boobs on children. Such an important matter that a thread was opened and more people came in to defend it, even though it's PERFECTLY NORMAL TO NOT HAVE BOOBS ON CHILDREN. I don't care how you're going to dig for exceptions. I don't care that they are above the average onset of puberty, they are children, and if the author decides his children are flat chested, then flat chested they are. Can't you guys just enjoy an anime ?

@Beatrice-KF its impossible for them to enjoy anything that doesnt present every person as distinctly a man or woman and if a character is a Woman™ it doesnt matter how old she is she must be objectified bc they only see women for sex lol

@phantomfandom So, the vaccines mentioned in the episode are an analogy to Westerners forcing/encouraging their children to take hormones to "change" gender...? Because this author is quite superficial in her stories, so I doubt that's the case.

Damn, now this show even makes sleeping weird. Won't you die without sleep? And why does Fuyumura look like the only one who doesn't get any sleep when she is the only one who does? The takes on Fuyumura's body by herself and everyone else is quite...something. And I like Niko, way to throw another weirdo into the mix.

Maybe the plot will introduce a reason for it down the line, but as for now i feel like the world of sanda makes no sense.

Like the birth rate is low, so they want to make kids grow up as slow as possible while never feeling attraction for each other. Shouldnt they want these kids to hit birthing age as soon as possible? I can think of a few other examples too, but thats the short of it.

tbh this really horrifying to be scared to have puberty, the story of ono was crazy and so good but tbh, I'm against lgbtq cuz its really not a thing at all and It causes moral decay i feel it was inserted for no reason at all

@ComboSmooth Yeah that's what I don't get. It'd make more sense to have the kids grow up regularly to become adults and THEN give the vaccine to stop needing sleep so that they can try for kids for longer.

this episode really hit differently. I like how the series uses the fantasy elements to explore puberty and identity without spelling everything out. It’s awkward, confusing, and messy, just like growing up. The way Ono’s arc connects back to Sanda’s inability to transform makes it even more symbolic. It’s like they’re all stuck between worlds: childhood and adulthood, magic and reality and none of them really know which side they belong to yet.

oh, fuyumura sugoi ikemen ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ณ
kakkoii

๐Ÿ’•

a pity it was a dream

this one wasn’t a dream ๐Ÿ˜ณ

so that’s why Ono “disappeared,” since the principal said no one can enter puberty until they graduate. But Fuyumura is right, she looks even prettier.

It seems like the world setting in this anime is much crazier than I assume. State-sponsored marriage, vaccine that prevent sleep so that children can stay awake to prevent puberty, I almost forget Sanda can't turn into Santa when I receive crazy information like this.

Santa will die if he love kids? That's quite a harsh rule, but the fact that Santa power fade away (temporary?) means that there might be a condition that will let Sanda fall in love (and do all kind of naughty things) with fellow kids. Just make sure they don't do it under a red blanket though, only a few can handle Santa's christmas tree.

This is still a step forward in story about diversity compare to Beastars. Using animal to display diversity is easy mode, using human is much harder, much more sensitive, much more challenging. I'm glad the author use all of her experience from Beastars and take the risk to create Sanda.
@phantomfandom I'm genuinely confused too - how the lack of sleep and how puberty became a taboo in that world.

Perhaps sleeplessness was a side effect to some superdrug they needed in the past, and their insomniac brain's reasoning became convoluted perhaps? And how they cope by living as its the truth.

But it was a nice info to have of their world without explaining anything

@Beatrice-KF They aren't children, 14 years old should have already passed puberty, so they must have boobs. And the author here is clearly saying that too, that a normal 14 years old has boobs and this other character don't because of the fucked up uprising.

@prvttua I had mentioned that problematic topic the author inserted into the plot. Well, it's her story, so she can do what she wants, but this whole lgbtlgk4fullhd thing is still crap.

@Onbilol The problem is the negative connotation these themes carry, not the fact that they're in the plot. Nobody here was talking about yuri, but rather about the part where the tall girl questions whether she's a woman or a man, as I said in my previous comment, I hope this is used intelligently and not just as something politically correct done to please Westerners.

Besides, anyone who doesn't like yuri (in anime) should reconsider their views, but I personally prefer to see two handsome guys hooking up (in anime). ๐Ÿ˜˜

Me: Well, now you have my full attention.

Interesting episode but I think I'm failing to understand why they are preventing the kids from growing up when the main plan is to repopulate Japan...
And on a little note, I gotta say I find it rather funny how Fuyumura looks the most sleep-deprived among the kids when she's probably the one who sleeps the most.

I already thought this anime was so good and crazy... and then comes Niko, like a gust of fresh air (pun not intended, regarding the typhoon). However, the best was the shoujo ai,that spices up an already spicy (and tasty) show.

Okay... that was an unexpected yuri moment. But putting that aside, honestly I was a little shocked because the rules at that school are horrifying. No sleeping? 24 hours? Damn...

The reason is that sleeping accelerates children's growth... well, that's true, and Ono is proof of that. So there's a mystery behind Fuyumura's body. She sleeps a lot but remains a child.

Or... maybe they're all actually adults....? So their real age isn't 14 anymore, and sleeping at night is a trigger for their adult bodies. I don't know, I'm just assuming.

I really like how a show with such a stupid premise also feels like its got this incredibly fleshed out allegory for how theres a subsect of society that is so obsessed with "protecting the children" from the corrupting nature of various scapegoats that its a direct attack on their natural development and more so a means of control and shelter from the real world. Everything from the prison like setting we never leave to stuff like this weird ass no sleeping and instant puberty plotpoint is so deliciously absurd but works to make this messaging wholey unique. I love it, this is a level of unhinged but thoughtful creativity you dont see much of.

@requiett
I read it as just more ways to exert control over them through temptation. If they all have beds but they have been conditioned to never sleep or else the consequences are severe then you can train the children to not see things like beds as a mean of sleeping much less anywhere else. Everything in these kid's lives have been decided without their autonomy or respect to their growth.

This episode felt different from what we've seen so far; I really enjoyed it.

So nothing nefarious happened to Ono, she just ran away because of her sudden, hum "growth spurt,"shall we say. That's a twist. And here I was, expecting a whodunit. The scene where she appears to Fuyumura in the middle of the typhoon was perfect, balancing dread and wonder in perfect harmonic synchronicity!

I'm not sure what I think of Niko, honestly. So far, I'm not a fan, although I don't hate her or anything. Also, I'm really happy that Yagiuda is sticking around!

Wasn't expecting this much exposition from this episode specially so early on for a manga with around 150 chapters the story is progressing very fast. Not sure how this'll go on for so many chapters. Anyway like beastars Itagaki Paru can craft a disgusting world and creepy environment and relationships. So only Fuyumura sleeps. They banned sleep to slow their growth and hit puberty late. The reason Fuyumura's so big is because she sleeps. I guess she is malnourished because the food provided isn't enough for a girl in puberty and is meant for children. The child lesbian stuff was disgusting. Sanda's fiancée is a fun girl though.

Sanda confessing to Amaya that he may have the hots for Fuyumura, as much as his "fiancée" of Niko Kazao is assigned to him by the government state, these two are a couple that just would not work due to their differing personalities. And even worse, in a rather heavy typhoon, Niko playing with trouble and calling out to Sanda as "Kazzy", the 14-year-old boy just can't see the same having two personalities as both the young boy and Santa Claus himself. As a normal young kid, Sanda should enjoy moments like this, but when Yagiuda joins the school as their P.E. teacher, fate threatens to intertwine him and Fuyumura, (no) thanks to his boss who orders an immediate capture of him, or face being transplated to 90 years of age.

The thing is, Sanda not being able to turn into Santa when he comes into contact with red, as much as Fuyumura restrains Niko over her getting close with Sanda, though her getting involved with Ono's affair, it's still too early to tell if she'll play a prominent role in the entire scenario. As much as Sanda contemplates to both Yagiuda and Amaya about his circumstances, the shock on Fuyumura's face to suddenly see Ono and even get emotionally controlled by her as much as a kiss and with a knife in her hand, this Ono is suspicious at best, though like Sanda, it comes down to puberty and even the simplest of things like sleep, that distinctively gave the game away about the development of their own bodies, even to the point of remembering with the Principal told them from Day One.

Such a profound episode exploring human puberty, and its limits of growing up against being in a controlling society like their school.
