Hi there!
I'm a very active manga reader who is re-reading my entire collection from childhood (which is about 800 something books). I happen to write reviews on some of them. I'm all for writing reviews since I believe newer readers should gain a different perspective coming from an old weeb trash like me; especially if a series aged terribly. I'm also very active on old forums because I just have to put in my two cents, half the time.
My ratings for each manga is taken seriously. Anything rated 4 and lower should not be considered readable and it is a waste of time. Any manga with 0 rating just means I need to re-read those mangas. My manga collection can be viewed in my Blog on my profile.

Now that you mention it, it does have similar elements to stranger things: From her (and those similar to her) being experimented on, to her actually finding a way to being free.
Is Saikano worth reading? Does it live up to today’s standards?
Not that you asked for any recommendations, but based on your favorites, you might enjoy “A Stepmother's Märchen” . Though it is still ongoing, I just reread it and it’s beautiful. If you read the first two chapters, the art itself will captivate your heart.
I like the somber feeling of the book, but the pacing (at least for the first two volumes) is all over the place. So much happens and so many things are revealed so quickly that I can’t empathize with the characters that I’m supposed to empathize with. How does she die despite abruptly being the strongest person alive? Also, I know this is the sign of it’s time and I’m just a prude, but I also don’t like the subtle pedo jokes.
Anyway, it was a quick read so thank you for the recommendation 🙂
I’m just a prude. A little bit of my soul shatters if what I consider to be a magnum opus turns out to be a little imperfect. E.g. I love Furuba ( didn’t mind a lot of the problematic things/dismissed it when I was a teen), but the age gaps and power dynamic for certain characters hurt me every time. It taints my feeling for it.
Anyway, noticed that clover is only 20 chapters. If I find a copy, I might be able to read it this weekend or next weekend.
As a person in my 30s as well , I’m actually afraid to even reread things I enjoyed in my early/mid 20s. Time, culture, and perspectives have changed so much; what if things I tolerated earlier are things that I can’t tolerate at this age. Hahaha idk. I’m also lazy and don’t have the bandwidth to reread things.
It's sad because I love mangas for girls but so many times it's a weird age gap thing :(
