Beryl fought the battle of his life here, easily one of his hardest fights because of the circumstances.

Also gotta give some credit to the students such as Ficelle for having the courage to stand up against that monster. It's early in the show but Beryl proved himself to be able to fight even at a disadvantage.

The students did so well to work together and defeat that monster. Beryl especially did well against such a strong opponent.

While this anime doesn't have the best animation out there, it's skillfully directed, and the editing team is on point. And once in a while the composer Yasuharu Takanashi doesn't use his usual maximalist approach, preventing the soundtrack from stealing the spotlight.

Lol the teacher finds these stranded kids and is like "whatever you do, don't go outside." and then LEAVES these 10 year olds to fend for themselves.
Maybe he should've evacuated them somewhere or kept them safe?

“Yea, we’re friends” OH MY GOD MY DAUGHTER MEWI FINALLY MADE HER FIRST FRIENDS 😭 over here getting emotional like a proud father, I’m so happy for her, she looks so much happier and more confident.

Dare I say it, this was the best episode in the whole series? Nonstop action from start to finish against a foe that pushed both Beryl and the students past their limits and made them grow as swordsman and people.

That’s a whole lot of character development for 24 minutes and I also think this’ll signify the start of a new phase of Beryl’s life where he realizes he’s getting older and instead of just letting age sweep him off his feet, he’ll get back to training and try to grow as a swordsman, unlocking new abilities, etc.

Kind of a shame this show is so underrated, but it is slow for the modern attention span, it is what it is.

The shadow wolves had some intelligence to them, they put out all the candles when they attacks the students.
I like that it was Mewi who took the initiative to convince everyone to work together to defeat the wolf.
That was a good boss battle, Ficelle defeated it with an amazing attack.

Beryl, my guy, you are 100% half the age of that old ass wizard dude... He thinks that he's going to die and crumble when he hits the 50 mark lol... Fear mongering the ones in the 40's age group like they are 1 year away from fucking dying... Kinda noticed this with "older" protags, they kinda all have this grampa complex, when they are not even half way past their lifespan...

Actually good use of useless kids, right now in this case! Some makeshift plan by Mewi and some guerilla warfare to take down a scary ghost dog, that they were all afraid of! That was kinda refreshing, instead of having Mewi 1v1 lets say like they would in all the other shows of this type!

Big dogo was a named monster and of course Beryl was able to cut the summoning crystal in half, when even the forever young hag over here couldn't destroy it... Now I really do smell an awakening happening to Beryl by the end of this shit, as right now he's in the "i am old, gonna cry some more" mode lol!

8/10, good girls that are grown up in all sorts of ways, satisfying combat with actual contact seen when they are hitting the targets, even the CGI is better than 99% of the PS2 ones from other isekai; as this one got the good end of life PS3 models, huge upgrade, they kinda look like the UE4/5 Bandai Namco jrpgs slop, where they use the same models for the characters across their games!!!

I hope we get to see Beryl challenges himself once again and go on a Netero type of training arc cuz the danger seems to up itself this season.

Just as I figured, Beryl was able to take down the shadow wolves and the big one with his physical attacks and Ficelle was able to help since she can also fight without depending on magic which makes her a lot more versatile than her peers.

Regarding Mewi, it was nice seeing her take the lead and having her classmates help in taking down one of those shadow wolves. Also, I wonder how the vice principal will get punished, and I'm curious to see how Beryl's trip home goes. Side note, haven't seen much of Allucia this season, maybe she will join him on his trip back home...

He really is trying to come to grips with getting old. I guess it makes sense for him to feel that as a martial artist. It's interesting how the Vice Principal is claiming Beryl doesn't know what it's like when he probably had more breathing room before "feeling old" as a mage.

I don't know if this is th LN version, but the manga makes a better things ... there is no grudge between the deputy director and beryl, its just the him who ask Beryl for a duel to see if there is a new hope in the magical blade because in the past is friend died because of this, and after the duel he accept Beryl and beryl was taken to a room containing an orb that could summon a powerful ghostly monster, to see what he would have. Nothing with a big wolf, a secret lair for Lucy experiment or whatever, and a deputy director who is an absolute dumb for having open a magical door and thrown a hand because he have to much self estime

man peaks his head in for 5 seconds to say be careful and the children are immediately attacked the moment he's gone. this episode was a bit weak. the action with the shadowolf was good but it definitely feels like stuff is being skipped or omitted.
i hate slice of life with a burning passion, but healing anime may be worse.

It's kinda forced but Ficelle is a very cute sensei. I like how the episode theme is coming back: grown student actually the one to beat the boss while sensei buys time. Also, the vice-director being a mirror of Beryl's aging and worries is wonderful, I hope they finally explore more his wish "to become stronger before laying down the sword" and that just doesn't stay fake nostalgia material.

Anyway, nice recap during 3 episodes, surprisingly not boring, with a nice peak on this one. I don't know the OG story but I'm expecting a good anime from this this season.

Good thing Beryl's magic sword was able to destroy the core. The kids won their own battle as well. It's good to see them saving themselves like that.

I'm glad it wasn't just a generic scenario like the vice principal being evil, I give it points for that. I like how badass Beryl can be in these fight scenes, always a pleasure to watch.

So they slew the monsters, had troubles, and old men grew concerned over their old age. That's the episode, the next one looks to be good ngl

A mage who knows how to use a sword is more useful than those pure mages thought, they are useless in a fight without magic.

That was a straight up horror movie scene with the students.

As expected of the vice principal, the idiot just made things worse over wanting the principals eternal youth. At least he wasn't blatantly and cartoonishly evil or obstructionist over the magic sword course.

Loved seeing both fights happening concurrently and the switching between them. The students were pretty resourceful in killing that wolf.

Damn, Ficelle made quick work of that giant wolf with that OP spellsword magic.

Beryl could become like that old vice principal at his age in the future if he didn't start teaching at the capital. Wished they talked more, would've been an interesting convo.

last ep was messy with lots of namedrops, this got much better. cool wolves. Kinera just teleports from nowhere? cool barrier tho.
students vs wolf well done, Mewi becoming a good leader. VP Brown smart but weird, years to invent magic canceller, just to break into random sealed door.
Beryl cool boss fight, very game like mechanics. Ficelle's excalibur took long time but quite awesome. Curious how Beryl will handling aging vs growing more.

Back to cg for the action scenes but a good blend of 3d and 2d. The more still shots were 2d and more movement based ones were 3d. Some 3d shots looked very close to 2d. Ficelle op and she has grown. So did the children. Also that senile oldman was behind it after all. I wonder what Lucy's secret to her youth is. Some sort of curse?

I have thought this during her spar in ep1 but damn, Fice is actually crazy strong?! I feel like she would give the commander a run for her money if she wasnt in the magic corps.

I wonder how old Lucy is?

Its quite refreshing to have an "old man" character who still gets treated as young by even older characters. Lucy especially seems to view him the same way he views his own former students.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting production value on this level. Usually lesser popular fantasy anime don't get this level of treatment.

Well yes ofc the climactic episode of the magic academy arc was the best out of the 3 episodes.
Whilst I did love seeing Beryl and Ficelle in action, with some pretty decent animation. I really enjoyed seeing Mewi working together with the others to defeat the monster and ultimately make friends...friends yah ヾ(≧ ▽ ≦)ゝ

Ficelle really grew on me this season compared to the last, guess that happens when she gets centre stage. But sword magic is also a major factor, as it is pretty cool.

Seems Beryl took the words of the old wizard to heart, seeing as time stops for no one. Not even out MC.
