Oh...oh damn, wait. When was the last time we got a JP fantasy or isekai with an actual grown adult as the protagonist? I think the last one was Backwater Swordsman. Alright, bro.

With that out of the way, I actually enjoyed the first episode. I found Aina to be pretty annoying at first, but once I learned why she acts the way she does, it became understandable. Even then, I still found her a bit annoying.

But damn, finding out that the women of the Onikin tribe only care about manliness had me laughing so hard because...what? Being manly is all it takes to become insanely attractive to them? 😭✌🏾 Yea, man, let me in there so I can get my own Aina too.

And what do you know? She started warming up to Dias and even fell for him simply because of that. 🤣 Funny as hell, but knowing their customs and traditions, it was inevitable.

He's also the definition of brawn over brains. The way this man deadass looked at an Earth Dragon and called it a turtle had me laughing. 🤣 He reminds me of Norn from I Parry Everything, though I find Dias way, WAY more entertaining and a much more interesting protagonist.

The action scenes are basically PNG slideshows, so they're pretty meh. Honestly though, I can overlook that because I'm enjoying the character dynamics and the overall tone. It feels like it's going to be a chill, slice-of-life-ish watch with some fights sprinkled in here and there...oh, and romance too, seeing as Aina straight-up proposed marriage after he took down the "turtle." 🤣

I'll definitely be sticking with this one. W.

The chieftain is trying to sell Alna based on what she thought HIS ideal is, that's why she pointed it out
@Chendroshee

How would the chieftan know that was important to him and even if she did, what he considered a beauty?

Because Dias himself mentioned "good looks and conversation" when he asked about what makes a man attractive.

That's why the chieftain just turned the gender around.

---

She called Alna a beauty is like when your mother called you handsome even though you probably look like an ugly bastard. It's just how a parent figure see their kid.

OR, she knows because there are already a lot of men aiming for Alna and rejected all of them. You can see the three cart men are jealous of Dias when Alna changed her makeup for him.

Perhaps the worst dialogue in any anime I've ever seen. It feels like a game tutorial in the worst way.
"Raising your Manliness has raised my opinion of you. Make sure to keep raising it to increase my Affection. further"
"Raising my Manliness has improved my standing with the villagers"
"You need to build 3 Yurts. If you bring back meat from a hunt the villagers should build you some"
"Looks like you need an Outhouse, let's try hunting for the villagers again"
"Oops, the villagers already have enough Ghee Meat, let's try a Monster Hunt instead."

I enjoyed this 1st episode, looks like it's going to be a lot of fun to watch.
Being a good person means even a rival tribe is willingto accept you.
Being able to mend your weapon is a really great skill and taking down that dragon was pretty badass.
1st episode ended and he already has a wife lol.
I am definitely looking forward to the next episode.

Really like that we have a manly main character for once instead of a teenager. Am really hyped for more of this.

well, i didn't expect her to pull a 180 THAT fast! :O considering their tribe seems to be nomadic herders of 'sheep' with the height of their weaponry bows n arrows... and i haven't seen a beast of burden yet... no horses or oxen or anything bigger than their 'sheep'... i'd guess their transports for baggage are those man-towed carts and they carry everything else on their own backs... so they have to walk or run on-foot everywhere... that magic they use is damn handy though, i wonder what other spells they've got?

his plate armor, giant battle-axe, and ability to kill tons of huge animals and that 'turtle' all by himself... i'm not surprised she was impressed with this 'manliness'. but wowed enough to propose marriage on the spot? i'd guess that 'turtle' was something her people have run and hid from for generations. so he's gotta have godly levels of 'manliness' in her eyes?

well. this one is going to be different than the average high fantasy anime i've watched. :D my curiosity is piqued!
@KiliianSleipnir here are some hints:
For starters, that axe he got off some foreign "soldier" calling themselves a "shogun", that should hint at the axe's power level. It had to be mended several times in that fight. And she called it an Earth DRAGON. They'll probably explain how manly dragon slaying is next ep.

Big fan of the manga so I am excited for the anime.
The CGI was a little jank in a few spots but on the whole it was alright.
Of course the best part is the character interactions especially between Dias and Alna and later the village building aspects.
As others have pointed out the poster makes it look like an action anime but is it mostly a building a home story, though with action here and there as Dias has to hunt monsters and defend his domain every once in a while.

Earnest muscle head of an MC. I like that. He made short work with Alna as well. ED shows it went really well.

@Rasip I can't remember her age, but I wanna say it's like 15-16 here, so definitely an age gap. And about the kids, without going into too much spoiler territory...

love this one so far, it's so funny to see Alna transition from being so aggressive to being so fun lol. It's understandable that their tribe look towards manliness especially with the amount He hunted it could've been a sort of confession in her eyes then the turtle/earth dragon made it a done deal but it's good to see another wholesome anime like farming in another world

@rogueclon946 mhm, i figured the 'shogun' was a translation thing either for him or English subs. plus, auto-repair magic weapons are a thing elsewhere in fantasy but... only in systems where durability is a setting... plus, i got the 'dragon' part but i'm yet unaware of the 'dragons' for this story's setting, so i'm going with 'big fire-breathing turtle/tortoise' till i learn more.

i've been reading fantasy even before i started school, so i've read a metric crapton of books in the past 40+ years in the genre... so i'm passingly familiar with every. single. worldsetting. there has been. from Glen Cook to Papa Tolkien all the way through to Roger Zelazny at the end.

Not bad as first ep, but I don't like how things escalated way tooooo quickly. She went from "You enemy. I'm gonna kill you" to "I'm gonna marry you!" in a few minute. A slower development in romance would have been a better way to keep my interest kicking.
I'm considering dropping this. Let's see if next ep will change my mind.

@Rafael2AMerlo mhm! ya gotta love "Amber". my first urban fantasy franchise in my life. it'll be a classic for me forever. :D i also think it was the first time i encountered a multiverse theory of worldbuilding.

i totally blanked on Piers Anthony during my memory search for fantasy authors from A->Z for my earlier post... shame on me... ;9 "The Incarnations of Immortality" was my 2nd urban fantasy franchise. considering Mr. Z published 'Nine Princes in Amber' six years before i was born in 1970 and Mr. A's 'On a Pale Horse' was in '83 when i turned seven. those two novels [bookended] perfectly for me. one waiting for me to show up in the world to devour it and one coming out a smidge more than a year after i had bypassed young adult novels at six and dove into 'the big books' with gusto. :D

@Chendroshee another note is the fact that while men are seen as what can you do, kill / protect / provide. women in their culture could have different selling points. i dont know the source material but having 2 standards for women and men on whats priority isnt all that out of place.

@Nachotee I have no idea who it was made for the manga goes to a different direction, they made the girl 15 and she became a a second thought. the twin girls aren't their offspring and there is a mouse it lost focus what it wants to be. I wanted it to be about a man hunting with his bride on his side. they became sde characters in their own manga

@KiliianSleipnir I've only read a couple volumes of the LN, but so far anything referred to as a dragon has been the strongest monsters around. Although, they also seem to be extremely specialized based on what element they're named after. His axe is also the only auto-repair weapon that's appeared in the story so far (at least as far as I've made it).

False modesty and claiming as adult a character who looks, sounds and has mannesrisms of a 14 years old to marry a guy who is clearly in his late 30s, at least. Why are japanese men so pedo? Why so scared of adult women?
Not to mention the stupid level of world building. You telling me this guy was in the army for 20 years and didn't build a community even though he raised a bunch of poor kids? He is CLEARLY special to the king, giving he received land with o previous title and yet had no money to organize even a small group of settlers to come with him to his new property?
And all that bullshit about menhood? As if super macho men weren't known for being aggressve towards their partners and children as well. Was this writen by a teenager?
