Well. Nice first episode. And basically one question. Do the events of the other 2 titles will count? Will they Show us a diffent prespective of the stories?

Feeling so happy right now. The ovas were amazing and finally the series is airing.
Honestly, I don't mind if there's a huge plot on this series or not (not against it either). Simply with the Fantasy Slice of Life tone I'll be more than satisfied.
I'll fade away and classify myself as obsolete!

Don't get the fuss at all. It's certainly well animated and generally doesn't do anything wrong, but it doesn't do anything new or interesting either. Everything it does feels like the sort of thing which normally happens in stories like this. It avoids making mistakes by not taking any risks with anything at all unusual, and sticking with things which are known to work. It's OK, but there's far more value to an interesting failure like Kiznaiver.

(But the only reason to make Harry Potter comparisons is if you're only ever seen/read/etc two magic school stories in your life. I bet half of the people doing it think Potter invented the genre. At least choose something like The Worst Witch as a comparison point instead.)

Exactly how I felt. Certainly well animated, but no spectacle in the other departments

Going to watch the second film.....would have watched that already but I didn't know it existed until now....but anyway:

This might be my favorite for the season.

True the OVAs were pretty simple, but I am interested to see what they do with the anime. We're only one episode in so I wouldn't dismiss it just yet.

Don't worry I haven't dismissed it. I'm still definitely curious to see where they'll take it in terms of the plot and characters.

Anime will finally be saved! Bless the almighty Trigger gods!

In all seriousness though, amazing first episode. It's hard not to get carried away by animation and art as spectacular as this and with a main character as excited entralled as Atsuko.

For me, this anime already wins a big spot for the Winter 2017 season. It's playful, it has its own level of drama, magic, and silliness! Truthfully I cannot find something I dislike about it. The designs, backgrounds, art, photography, animation, all are spot on.

Fun fact: The shiny star that Urusula saw (hot teacher Ursula) was in the middle of some man's legs... Oh Trigger, you and your references and easter eggs xD perverts jaja.

It seems the series will not follow the same events of the prior OVAs, oh well, that's fine.

As the first episode is pretty good and even if the original movie is more epic, i think that scene where a certain thing appears when Akko's said some words is pretty epic too, it's like it answered to Akko's heart

Okay so I clearly didn't enjoy this episode as much as the majority but it was a nice start. Sucy is pretty adorable.

Was pretty surprised to find out that this is gonna be 25 episodes long- I'm wondering what direction it'll take- will we have an overarching plot to do with Silver Shiny Chariot or will it just be fun and episodic?

I'm on the fence about continuing rn, but I think I'll give it a few more eps at least.

You know, now that I re-watched the original movie, I kinda preferred how they handled the transformation of the Shiny Arc in the movie better. Here, she was guided by Ursula, but in the movie, she did it all on her own. Being the huge fan of Chariot that she is, I kinda liked that she would instinctively know how to use it.

Wow, this was suprisingly good. On par with first OVA, a lot better than Enchanted Parade.
I loved their facial expressions and the animation was also great.

The balanced the setting and the comedy just right! The show has certainly potential to be really great and after first episode I have all reasons to believe that this series fills in the parts OVA couldn't. Not to mention there will be whole 25 episode of this.. this has to be a dream come true!

Way to go, Trigger!

-MC-chan seemed super amazed by that performance
-In all of the time that I've known of this franchise's existence it never once occurred to me that there was a magic side of the world and a nonmagic side of the world
-Akko is 2cute
-Wait wasn't purple hair going in the opposite direction when they crashed into each other
-This premise is actually a ton more interesting than I expected
-The soundtrack is super good, actually. This may be the first thing I've seen where I've actually noticed the background music
-I dunno, something about the whole show's atmosphere makes it feel like a classic cartoon. Maybe it's just the colors used in this episode
-Purple hair's name sounds like sushi
-Akko is super cute
-The OP song and animation are also super good

I've been holding off on anything LWA-related for a pretty long time now, probably because I thought it wouldn't be my thing. The first episode of this incarnation of the franchise flipped that presumption completely upside down. This is probably the first show I've seen where the ambient BGM has been both distinctive and appropriate to the situation. In many of the shows I've watched before, there's usually only a couple of pieces of ambient music that are reused in meaningful moments, but in this episode I think every BGM was unique. Also the music has orchestral instruments in it which just sounds better to me, personally. Despite hearing about LWA a lot, I never actually read up on the premise of the franchise but it's been more interesting than I thought it would be, with Akko not seeming to be a witch by blood.
The characters have also been pretty great so far. Akko's been a pretty chipper character, and she's super adorable both design-wise and character-wise. Also, Sucy's a pretty great counterpart to Akko with her constant deadpan. Lotte hasn't had too much screentime yet, though, so right now she just seems like the archetypal goofy best friend. Maybe that'll end up working, since Akko's pretty goofy herself.

TL;DR This episode was pretty great

I'm loving the OST. The background music that played while Akko was being snubbed by the three witches at the Luna Nova leyline was very nice.

Akko can be the stereotypical annoying character who fucks up everything but I can't completely hate her. Sometimes I do abhor her but sometimes I like her a lot.

Sucy was a bit evil towards them but at least they're somewhat friends now. That giant chicken made me lol I was kind of hoping that Sucy's spell on that stuffed chicken toy would last forever. It would make a cute chocobo-like mascot.

Okay I am re exam the Shinning Chariot flashback. So Akko is sitting in between a guy with glasses and a dark haired woman, could they be her parents? On Diana's right there is a dress up guy but too dressed up, looks like he could be her butler or attendant, I wonder if we will see him in the future. I wonder if she is close to him, I have seen these types of characters they are closer to their butler, their maids, their nannies, more than there own parents.

Opening Intro Analysis
- The opening starts off with Akko, Lotte and Sucy holding hands leading to spiral formation to the Seven Words of Arcturus till finally a tree which I call Yggdrasil, the world tree. In mythology, Yggdrasil was this very powerful and ancient tree that held the nine realms of the Norse Mythology. As you probably read, think about this, nine worlds and the Nine Olde Witches. Probably the Nine Olde Witches and Little Witch Academia as a world has influence of the Norse and I developed a theory which I will reveal later.

- The transition from Shiny Chariot to Akko shows a lot. Chariot riding a broom through a blue colored sky till it descends to the earth with white backgrounds where Akko was. As you recall, Chariot was some sort of champion among Witches who could have saved the magic world but for some unknown reason, that didn’t happen leading to the mantle of Chariot, the Shiny Rod to be passed on to Akko. The blue skies represented the state of the world where there was some semblance of life but moving to today, we see the world is completely white showing how lifeless the world has become due to Chariot unable to fulfil her role.

- Akko and her friends standing behind Luna Nova represents that the fate of the school is in Akko’s hand but also the support of the founders themselves, the Nine Olde Witches referencing Episode 11 where Woodward entrusted Ursula to help Akko in unlocking the remaining words. Diana behind the white background references that she won’t have the support of the Nine Witches or that her goal in saving magic would result in more lifelessness or in this case, destruction. All the students that stood, lined up in the middle meant to be that their fates on whoever’s hands.

- Akko and Diana walking towards one another before walking away from one another shows the eventual clash between these two students mirroring the actions of Chariot and Croix until at the last moment, both Akko and Diana grabbed each other hands meaning Diana’s redemption of her character and siding with her rival and what might possibly be her true friend. As you have also noticed, the young versions of Chariot and Croix were shown but this time wearing white clothing which foreshadows what could possibly be their deaths or ascension to a higher plane of existence.

- Next was the ‘ready for battle’ sequence. All of Akko’s friends, her teammates, Amanda and her team, Diana and Akko herself but before I talked about Akko, I want to talk about the ley lines. If you look closer, the ley lines had what looked to be branches or roots which connects to Yggdrasil. Why is that? Well, the answer is that what we are looking at are the roots of the world tree itself. The Ley lines are the Roots of the World Tree, Yggdrasil. So, all that meant is that all the Witches and the Faeries are taking in this magical energy from one of the most ancient forces in the universe. Also, could this mean the world where Akko is having her adventures is located at one of the nine realms. However, this presents a case on what’s happening to Yggdrasil.

- We understand that magic came from somewhere, probably Yggdrasil but at some point, the magic is getting less which foretells a frightening conclusion, the world tree is dying. If that happens, all the worlds including Earth would be destroyed without Yggdrasil holding them together. That might be the purpose of Chariot. By reviving the Seven Words of Arcturus, they can revive Yggdrasil who will in turn support the worlds once more.

- Moving on to Akko. Her transformation reflects on herself. The Elephant with the giant ears, Dumbo and since Dumbo made the impossible possible reflects on that Akko could perform miracles which amazed even Diana. Akko’s transformation to a Dolphin or a Shark tells how fluid or creative Akko can be, a reference to a new generation of artist which new minds. Akko’s transformation into a phoenix references how even in defeat, Akko could still rise up and continue her goal in becoming a Witch like Shiny Chariot. Her transformation into the mouse references how even with all the power in her hands, she’s tied to the small beginnings that allowed her to become what she is today.

- Professor Woodward along with Ursula and Croix foreshadows the eventual relationship that is about to be discovered and Andrew’s presence is a reminder that even as a Witch, Akko started off as a human who has strong bonds with those around and ending with synchronization of brooms and wands informing us about a celebration that is about to come.

as a long time Harry Potter viewer this was very refreshing to watch as they share quite a similar concept with each other. Lotte's character reminds me a lot of young innocent Ron Weasley back in Philosopher's Stone. aside from the HP similarities, the giant cockatrice reminded me of the basilisks in Dark Souls when it breathed out the gas which was said to leave you petrified. makes you wonder if they have possibly taken reference of the game or it was just purely coincidental
