| My memory of S1+movie is pretty much based on actual ww1+bits of ww2 history. As I remember in the movie not-Germany seemed like they were unstoppable, so it came quite a surprise to see not-Germany struggling at the start of S2. So, we must be in 1942-ish period where things start to get ugly for the Reich? If that's the case, I wonder how Tanya can save not-Germany from the impending disaster. Frontline with not-Soviets is enormous and even if Tanya's Napoleon, she can't be everywhere at once to win all the battles. So, how can she turn the tide? Sue for peace? Not in this type of anime lol. Hopefully not-Soviets won't disappoint in this universe and we'll see huge spam of new tanks (made in factories far from the front) and huge numbers of troops equipped for winter-war (unlike not-Germany that seems to face the same logistical troubles and isn't equipped for winter battles). It'll be even funnier if winter is similarly brutal here. I laughed at Tanya imagining herself at Nuremberg trials. Yup, pretending to be innocent loli won't save her. |
| It's been 7 years since the movie came out and we are back with a strong first episode for the second season! Very much looking forward to this season. Also, can we PLEASE kill that Loria guy he is so gross. 😭 |

| Good animation just like the previous adaptations, but the story still feels like it had way more potential. It's mostly built around Tanya resenting a being she once denied but now knows exists, which ends up blurring the line between atheism and misotheism without really exploring the difference. At this point it just becomes a prideful protagonist taking on whatever challenges Being X throws at her, even though He's already proven His existence beyond doubt. It's a valid direction, but it feels pretty limited when it mostly boils down to a dark comedy about someone refusing to accept reality out of sheer pride. Thankfully, most of the story focuses on the world itself and the causes and consequences of war, which keeps it from getting tiring. The military + magic setting is still the most interesting part. The writing is kinda meh tho. Good atmosphere, but never dynamic enough to shake off that turn-based JRPG vibe, and characters constantly saying their entire thought process out loud gets annoying. One of those rare cases where the anime is actually more enjoyable than the source material. |
