I’ve watched this five times already since late January. I don’t think I’ve ever rewatched an anime this many times in such a short span.

10/10, there is no debate here.

However, whatever happened after Kaguya left was messy, it's like whoever wrote this purposefully made something up to make us feel even more bad because Yachiyo (Kaguya from another timeline that was with another Iroha) was here 8000 years just to reunite with Iroha, which isn't the Iroha from her timeline as well in this case. That just downplays the entire department of Kaguya, a whole another person that we know about and love from the beginning.

Now we are confused, oh okay, who should I love or feel bad about now? Yachiyo (the Kaguya from the other timeline) or the Kaguya that just left the Earth 5 minutes ago?

They should have just left the story as it was, I for sure would prefer Yachiyo as an actual AI and Kaguya actually left and never returned. If they were to make a happy ending just send Kaguya back in a few years or something, this is just messy and confusing, it completely destroyed the emotions I had for Kaguya when she left the Earth.

Still good I guess, just feel a bit off, a bit disappointed, but this is still 10/10. At least this ending doesn't traumatize me like Cyberpunk lol.

The best movie I've seen for a while. I'm glad I decided not to figure things out before the plot twist reveal.(Cause I usually do, and I'm really good with it)
Huge praise for the director, writer, animators, etc. The Yuri element is just a huge bonus. Overall I really liked it. No I loved it.

Iroha is a talented and hardworking young lady who lives alone and survives by having an oshi-katsu (she is a big fan of an AI singer). One day after wishing on a falling star(?), she finds a baby and ends up taking it in, only every night it grows bigger until it's her age.

Kaguya is excitable and voracious but that's what Iroha needed.

There's a virtual world where Iroha's oshi Yachiyo exists and performs concerts. Kaguya pulls Iroha into a contest where the winner gets to sing with Yachiyo.

I don't even know what to say about the plot because it's all still churning in my head except...

I CRIED SO MUCH

I found myself wishing it was a TV show a few times but ultimately think it did a really good job of building everything up and landing the punches. When the twist hit and just started crying and crying.

The music wasn't really my type but it held so much meaning for the characters. I do wish we got to hear Iroha sing more, her voice was more my type.

Spoilers:

Just thinking about how far Iroha went in the end for Kaguya brings tears to my eyes. I wanted to see a picture of them eating pancakes at the end but the below screenshot is still very lovely. X'D

I went in unsure about whether this was GL or not even even halfway in I still wasn't sure, but the way it was portrayed in the end was beautiful. Yes "I love you" is said but the love is truly shown through actions and emotions and it was beautiful. Iroha refused to let go multiple times and in the end spent 10 years studying to build a body for Kaguya, one where she could taste the pancakes they promised to have together.

I can't wait to rewatch it someday! I saw there's a light novel, it'd be cool if it was able to expand on the story since it'll have more room.

The art was great, the music was great, fighting scenes were great and surprisingly, THERE WAS STORYLINE!?!
Although the first half was better than the second, after rewatching the movie, I've come to terms and also majorly enjoy the 2nd.

Great animation but the story is a textbook hodgepodge. Took me few months to finish it.

I am absolutely outraged by the premise of this movie. A cute alien VTuber girl flees to our planet to seek refugee from her civilization boring her to death, and our collective species does entirely nothing but let an alien military force show up and kidnap her back, bar the resistance of just a handful of humans? We just do nothing and allow an invading military force violate our sovereignty? Where is the JSDF? Where is the United States military? Where is the UN??

No, I will not let this stand! Cute VTuber girls are humanity's treasure regardless of origin and we will fight tooth and nail to guarantee their safety and human rights!

As response, I hereby declare the formation of the United Forces of Humanity organization, whose primary goals will include:
1. The defense of cute alien refugee girls against the alien invaders who dare invade upon our atmosphere to reclaim their escaped citizens,
2. The rapid research, development, manufacture, and deployment of weapons of mass destruction, against said invaders, and
3. The formation of an additional expeditionary branch, the Space Force, who will venture out to alien organizations and kidnap their cute girls who are bored of their alien civilization for the benefit of humanity!

Never again shall we lose cute VTuber girls to alien invaders again! All hail humanity!!

The animation on this ONA? absolutely stunning! Animation of the year right here! ONA itself was actually very fun to watch all throughout and that twist near the end was surprising. 9.3/10 for me, might be recency bias but it's finee 💚

I failed to love this. Great show, but drags on for too long and really not much happens. Just my opinion though. Solid 7.5-8/10

What's not surprising though is how this is sold by people here as a Yuri anime. Not a single "aishteru" said throughout the movie. "I should just marry you" was said as an obvious tease/joke but certain people take it at face value out of desperation. It's like 5yo saying she's gonna marry her brother/dad when she grows up and those same people calling the show Incest-anime. Says a lot about online community in general. 0 social life = you can't imagine strong same sex relationship without romance.

Epic anime. I had so much fun. Now that this has come to an end, I am interested in Lunarian technology. And can't Kaguya manifest into her physical body anymore? With the advancement of tech, why won't she try to heal herself? This is AMAZING. Amazing stuff. I love High-technology alien stuff.

the fact that yachiyo is kaguya but travelled 10000 years back and injected herself as an ai to live enuogh to see iroha again then iroha dedicating 10 years of her life to give her a body again is absolutely stunning, aside the animation quality i think the story extremely intriguing but there could be some kisses here and there and film could be 30 mins shorter too thats the only downside almost perfect! 9/10

Watching this because I've heard a lot about it on Twitter ànd it has a high rating so it must be peak.

Iroha, a regular girl who crossed paths with the lunar princess Kaguya, this is the beginning of her adventure as a single mother and then as a streamer and as a singer and her adulthood. I liked those scenes of she taking care of Kaguya, was pretty cute and she was projecting herself in her, interesting.

But is not what I was expecting, like not at all. I was expecting something about a space adventure, something supernatural with action and that stuff but that kind of stuff only took place in the meta verse and the whole movie was more about mundane things, I feel catfished by the title hahaha. That was what I was expecting but it was more of an analogy of growing up and that kind of stuff.

Not as touching or deep or interesting as I thought. The characters weren't so unique or interesting besides Kaguya who surely was special but it wasn't explored very much. That final revelation was probably the most interesting thing but the whole thing about Kaguya in the past for 8000 years was irrelevant. Also people say it's a romance story but I don't see it, Iroha's relationship with Kaguya is more like a mother-daughter thing rather than something romantic and that's the point since it's an analogy of her projecting or that's how I see it.

I give this a 7/10, the visuals were very good and the songs too I guess. Pretty disappointing tbh and I didn't know it was available on Netflix, since it wasn't on crunchy I thought it was only in cinemas in Japan or something like that so I watched it on a random website, I mention this because I could have watched it with the dub. Very forgettable.

@JKam57 I guess it needs a bit more understanding than that?
No surprise you didn't pay attention though if you were expecting some "imma chargin muh lazer" light fun.
For me it is by far the best piece of media Japan, no, the whole world ever made.
And the romance even without the Ray MV and commentary (and marriage) is more obvious than almost anywhere, and delivering it without as much as a kiss is genius
