Ayy we get to see my boy scar.

Bad man :( I saw this coming since I've already seen this episode multiple times including brotherhood's counterpart but ouch. Shou tucker is an awful human being

Man that episode was really horrible. I hope the rest of the series isn’t going to be as traumatic and upsetting.

really good episode, can see what people mean when they mention how much more mature fma is. especially how ed's trauma is handled.

i prefer the brotherhood version of that scene but the way it was built up here was way better
good opinions on anything, block = I own you

I actually like the way Tucker was humanised more here than in fmab, showing that alchemists will do anything to survive if their backs are against the wall. If anything the moustache guy is to blame for making Tucker do this.

this definitely is one of the most iconic anime episodes out there. it's dark, and fucked up in the best way possible. We've been given time to get attached to Nina, and when the dots finally connect, it's just... hard to explain the emotion felt here. I don't have to say much here, you already know it's good.

Great episode, it's too bad Nina's fate was spoiled for me long before I ever had any interest in watching this show. To be fair though, when you see a happy child in anime, this is the only kind of fate that awaits them.

Welp, I've put off watching this show for ages, but I finally got to "that episode". Are you proud of me, my fellow weebs and memers? :3

...But seriously though, I don't really get the hate for Shou Tucker TBH. Of course, I had the twist spoiled on me years in advance thanks to all the memes, so perhaps the whole "audience betrayal" factor was lost on me, but there are a lot more reprehensible anime characters out there regardless. Heck, this very series gave us Majhal a few episodes prior...

Majhal has the benefit of being forgotten, being an original character unique to 03 and therefore not carrying his infamy into Brotherhood.

Also, a lot of people don't think highly of that episode.

It was really heartbreaking to see that Nina was fused with Alexander the dog into a Chimera. It was really depressing and hope that her father Shou Tucker gets what's coming for him. Nina and Alexander has already went through so much pain fused together and as a result that led to their demise. This happened the same with Tucker's wife was also turned into a Chimera.

This is way more convincing and sadder storytelling than the Brotherhood, better build up too.

I didn't expect my premonition to become a reality.
Tucker indeed showed signs of a bad man.
Kinda sad.

I have to say, this is WAY better than the 09 version.

there's the pace that don't rush anything (unlike previous episode). there's the writing, where Ed realized what's going to happen way before actually seeing Nina Chimera. masterpiece of episode.

and then there's couple of stuff that don't relate to this story thats happening in the background. those kind of things makes the world of the stories much more believable - not everything in the world happens right besides the main characters.

This is the ultimate version of this arc, INCLUDING the manga version, and you can't prove me otherwise.

Perfect pacing, perfectly conveyed emotions, perfect visuals and INCREDIBLE use of silence. The team was confident when they were making this episode and it shows. They knew it was something special.

I never read the manga but I'm starting to think FMA 2003 is better than even that...

The first time I watched FMA 2003 was almost 8 years ago, so the twist of this episode has, over time, lost a lot of its impact on me.
It's so well-known as a sad, dark plot-twist that it's kinda hard to see it on its own merit anymore. I only watched the show twice before now, but this episode has been so thoroughly canonized online that it's hard to still feel anything about it. I see it playing out before me, but I can't connect to it. It doesn't even feel surreal, it just feels textbook.
Cute girl ✔️
Cute dog ✔️
Sad event ✔️
That's a wrap

In a way I think it's kinda unfortunate that this episode has gotten the reputation that it has because it definitely makes it hard to approach on a rewatch.

Or, that's what I thought until I got to the extra images that they spliced into the ending theme.

Yeah, it's pretty good.
