Holy hell this was absolutely phenomenal, I havent ever seen a solo movie this good before im still running off the high of this movie and man I will never forget this movie till the day I die. Firstly the animation was absolutely sublime but not just that I havent seen a anime take such a creative approach to their art style since wonder egg priority they took so many creative leaps with this movie in every sense and it came out incredibly you could tell they put love into this movie.

Plus the voice actors, the music as well was all so well done I can't believe they actually included Miku's "The world is mine" in the movie that was so cool to see.

As for the movie itself it was insanely fast paced ima be honest especially towards the end of the movie but I personally was fine with it because of how incredible the characters were, there was a lot but realistically it only focused on Iroha, Kaguya and Yachiyo mainly. Iroha stole the show for me she was such a compelling character in every sense of the way and her dynamic with Kaguya was actually so beautiful to see. Plus their handshake was so cute.

The music, the action, voice acting, romantic tone of the movie absolutely everything was done superbly I have nothing but praise for this movie.

10/10 best solo movie I've watched in years

side note: I was calling it comic princess Kaguya for ages leading up to me watching it until like a hour after the movie ended I realised it was cosmic princes Kaguya. Not comic XD

I'm happy for thirsty yuri fans that the corporate greed machine decided to exploit/pander to them. I somehow doubt that this rambling, messy film will end up an enduring classic. I would also like to point out that if Iroha were gender-swapped, the author would literally be receiving death threats.

That was some bullshit plot device in the last segment of the movie.

However, the quality of this was over the roof. Studio Colorido never disappoints in art and design direction.

Iroha took those developments with Kaguya well. A baby in a pole who's from the moon and rapidly grew up into a teenager. Heck, she was really quick on the uptake too, and mighty capable when it came to building a fanbase. I think after the first few surprises she couldn't be surprised and had already grown attached to her new roommate.

I enjoyed how this film was a major mash up of VR fighting, Idol Singing, Vtubing, and a modernized rendition of a fairytale. I never read the one about princess kaguya, but the movie explained it well enough and gave me a desire to see it subverted along with Kaguya.

The twist was pretty cool too. Some powerful emotions were at work for Yachiho to do all that she could to go and see Iroha again, and Iroha inventing that android body so they could be together in the real world sure made the happy ending even sweeter.

Peak movie, and excellent dubbed songs.

While writing the review, i wrote a little about the plot and wanted to put it under the spoiler, but MAL doesnt allow you to add a spoiler to review so because no one reads reviews with spoilers let it be here:

Since every minute something flashing on screen or Kaguya is running and jumping around and screaming (she really drives me crazy), the plot feels very fragmentary - one moment main characters are fighting each other, then they are announcing the results of the competition (literally right after the battle!) and then there is the concert?

The ending is completely confusing: so does that mean Yachiyo is Kaguya from the future, who wanted to return to Iroha but made a mistake and went back 8000 years?

What is this?

And in the end Iroha becomes a scientist and creates a body for Kaguya (BUT WHY THAT CRAZY LOLI KAGUYA AGAIN? Yachiyo is much nicer and cuter. Btw if the second main heroine had been Yachiyo instead of that little brat, maybe this anime would have been better)

Overall the ending is complete nonsense, in my opinion

Meh movie overall. Production values were incredible but blonde Kaguya was insufferable during two thirds of the movie and the last twenty minutes with the random sci-fi twist were whatever.

4/10 - The amount of people denying the romance between Kaguya/Yachiyo and Iroha is baffling, btw.

The film is certainly beautiful. It's also funny and even moving. My only gripe is that the pacing is a bit too fast at times, making it hard to tell what's happening, but overall, it doesn't detract from the viewing experience. The music is also quite good, as long as you like J-pop.

I think it's a solid 8/10 for the little over two hours of entertainment.

This movie felt like a weird combination of Sing a Bit of Harmony, Summer Wars, and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. The songs and animation were nice, but the story became a bit too silly for me at the end. That scene that showed Kaguya's journey through time was meant to be impactful and all, but I couldn't really feel anything since I, as the audience, didn't experience it too.

i agree! the 8000 year time gap seemed so incomprehensible to me that i can't really relate to yachiyo. i don't think the montage that FUSHI showed is nearly enough to cover that.

honestly, this should've been a TV show instead of a movie. the pacing is sooo fast most of the time, especially with all the montages. i suppose this is them showing how living in the moment feels? either way, the animation is just freaking adorable! the way characters move and interact seemed so fluid and exciting. i was also knocked off guard by the quality of the fight sequences.

i feel oddly tranquil after the movie is over since the ending didn't hit quite right, although it was kind of funny/cruel that they tried to pull a fake credit screen with netflix's "watch this next" graphics when present Kaguya got taken.

9/10

PS: i am trying to make sense of the time travel thing. yachiyo says that its some inescapable loop but i can't really visualize it.

so from how i understand it, Kaguya from 8000 years ago descended onto present day Tokyo and found Iroha. a few moon cycles later, Kaguya is taken back to the moon. however, because Iroha couldn't stand not having Kaguya around (I would too honestly, the positive vibes are addictive), she calls out to Kaguya who is taken to come back. however, on the way back, Kaguya accidentally gets sent back way too many years (8000) on earth. on top of that, her ship thing is broken so she is limited in what she could do (meaning no transform into humanoid form).

ok, technically, when she gets trapped, the initial descent already happened for the moon because the moon should be operating on its own timeline.

few thoughts:
1. why doesn't she fix the damn ship?
2. the true initial descent shouldn't have had the vr technology.
3. how was she taken away then when the virtual world didn't exist?
4. inventing the vr tech alters the moon's timeline: what Kaguya sees for the first time on earth is going to be different.

oh so i guess the being trapped part is meant to happen/is a mandatory canon event because that's how this timeline system works
that's so fucked up, and more importantly goes against the whole making a "happy ending" theme?

The plot is breathless
The movie looks great, but the story just isn't there. It jumps between ideas and never fully develops anything. There's no real message besides a shallow focus on online fame. It feels childish and depends mostly on visuals. I couldn't really connect with the characters either. If you're hoping for a strong or interesting storyline, this movie isn't it.

It is good. I liked the interactions between Kaguya and Iroha but the last bits felt like could have been better thought-out. There was already some foreshadowing and you could already guess there was time-travel involved by the time the part about Iroha's new song came up. I guess it just felt weird to have Yachiyo to simultaneously perform with Kaguya at the end there (even if the Yachiyo was a clone) but I guess it fits Kaguya's character...? But no, Yachiyo was already less hyper than the Kaguya before time travel at the end there so how is it that she just regains her "hyper" energy the moment she gets fitted into a Kaguya-looking body? Yea, that was the one part that felt dissonant with me.

Still a good movie overall.

That was surprisingly way better than I thought it would be..
It was really fun to watch, the animation was breathtakingly beautiful and the movie never got boring even though it was kinda long (although normal length for an anime movie).

Not sure yet which score I will give it, but it's gonna be a good one.

Also it seems like some people thought it was yuri/GL.... but I personally didn't think so. It's more like they are best friends (forever).

I stumbled into this one as a random click from my streaming app, for something to watch while I do my data entry tasks at work.
I didn’t even realize I was getting into a retelling of Princess Kaguya, which I loved as told by Studio Ghibli, so I was super into this retelling!!! It had lots of aspects that I like in anime, and exposed me to genre that I don’t normally pick out for myself (idol/musical performance). THAT WAS A REALLY LONG MOVIE!!! But as the captive audience, it was well worth the time half spent.
Was this supposed to be Yuri? I’m gonna pretend I didnt see anyone here mention that. XD Nothing against Yuri (I’m a fan), but with the MC sorta raising her I’m calling it sisterhood. But enjoy y’all’s ship.
