At 40, uncle just needs to accept it, gaining weight at this point is basically over lmfao. Too late for that. Poor guy though, he’s only now realizing how bad smoking is for him, so he finally tries to quit... but ofc that kinda defeats the whole point of the show. Thankfully it was just a hospital mix-up, so he can still keep smoking behind the supermarket with Tamaya.

Meanwhile, she’s dealing with her own issue too, and funny enough it’s the same one uncle struggled with earlier: smiling. I didn’t expect it to get that serious with Yamada almost crying there though. But even back then, uncle had her back, so that was nice. He really had that dog in him back in his prime lmao. Jokes aside, it was a pretty sweet moment, if you ignore the fact she was probably like 16 in that flashback lol.

Stupid "early premier" finally over... for now. The rest will be coming out in a release schedule that truly rivals that of SBR:
6/17: Episode 07
6/18: Episode 08
6/19: Episode 09
6/24: Episode 10
6/25: Episode 11
6/26: Episode 12/Finale

@IzanaSolos yeah, that wasn't necessary for this nice story. True stupidity.

Let's get it out of the way: Kids, no matter how cute the story is around it, smoking is bad. And 100% fuck cancer. Still, I can kinda identify with the guy: No one, in no matter which kind of health-related issue, seriously wants to hear bad news.

So, it was him, right? The mysterious guy that say to the asshole to give it a rest and move on. The one little Tayama reminds for that action.

Again, damn it, Abema! Now, I had to hold until the actual release date... Or navigate the seas way before than intended. It was such a nice story.

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

Thanks for the info! I was really worried that I had to wait two whole months for the next episode xd It's kinda unfortunate that this great anime had this messed up scheduling...I don't understand the sense of it :(

I have watched the first six episodes and I'm really liking it, I think that it's one of the best romance anime with an adult cast that I've watched.

The second part with a glimpse of Yamada's past and the customer that encouraged her to keep at her job and passion for it, despite the struggles she went with her customer service and facial expressions and mistakes that got the wrath of some annoying, grumpy customers with terrible moodswings like the one that had it out for her. Obviously, very strong resemblance that is Sasaki, and he was someone that was looking to smoke around the area till he was taken to the back there at the start, so leaves things to be interesting there. Maybe it is just someone completely random and the image being closer to Sasaki is just for the sake of the story that Yamada is portraying, since Sasaki is the one she is interested in clearly and the person could be someone else entirely since she can't remember their face, and is only having eyes for Sasaki right now. Good segment though. And even the previous one with his health scan and the slight tease that he would have to stop smoking for his long-term health scans, causing Yamada to tense up a bit at the thought of being separated with their common ground being stripped away. Luckily, was just a false alarm with a misdiagnosis and he can continue to gain lung cancer at free will, while not losing that connection with Yamada/Tayama (even if she had thoughts on finding a different way to make Sasaki think of her beyond smoking briefly).

Sucks that there won't be a new episode with subs for a bit of time. Will watch these episodes back when they properly release in the appropriate formats and structures, and to keep knowledge fresh when going into newer episodes that drop for this. Will miss this OP/ED combo though, since I'm pretty sure from what I heard, that it's for the mini-episodes only and not the eventual TV version. I really liked listening to both of them when watching these mini-episodes, so it's a shame those are mostly going to be gone for the TV version. At least the artists are the same and I like their track record.

This has to be the worst release schedule I’ve ever seen dawg what were abema thinking

BUT, Zutomayo OP and IMASE ED oh my god I’m sat. Two of my fave jpop artists and hearing night dancer again after 2 years was so nice. That was my anthem all summer 2023

I’ve generally enjoyed the first half of the show thus far but this flashback to Yamada getting harassed by the customer pissed me off. Japanese people are way too fucking passive and soft. You have a dude who comes in every day complaining and harassing an employee and no one sticks up for her other than a customer who himself only have a half assed reaction to him.. like that bitch should’ve been on the floor and thrown out the store while police come get him.

I’m glad they addressed the health concerns of chain smoking in the first half of the episode.. just go brush it off by saying buddy’s lungs are fine and the scan was wrong lol?? It’s cool to watch in anime, but God I know his lungs gotta look like charcoal

Remember kids, smoking/vaping makes you look cool even if you have the personality of a wet noodle and it absolutely has no health issues. It will get you a hot young snarky girl that will like you for no real reason. /s

There couldn't had been a worse episode to make the pause than one where Sakaki met Yamada when she was even younger and more vulnerable (this will make the age gap less creepy, right?), and of course in order to make him more appealing the author has to make him look like the hero of the day with such a low bar passive/aggresive intervenience.

@Kimurah To be fair, Sasaki got a health scare on his latest physical and the long term consequences for him are still ahead. Yamada is only 24, so her consequences are 25 years down the line.

But it went back to being a non issue for Sakaki. It's a worthless writting crutch to make everything go back to the status quo.

Yamada being younger it also means d*ck squat. The author isn't going to make an actual plot twist that would actually reflect on her abuse on nicotine, because it's audience want nothing but an insipid romance with no drama or real consequences.

This show is a massive smoking advertisement.

Finished the first 12 eps aka 6 eps batch on crunchyroll, this was such an great series cannot wait for more.

With it, being the series how sasaki whom is not full of socializing person being over responsible, whom he met yamada which everything changed remaining unaware the "tayama" persona is the very same person ssaki meets at convience store, how yamada encourages sasaki to speek and communicate with her during smoking is really so great. How it also perfectly captures, how relationships are developed through small converstations with everything being laid back peaceful friendly is seriously incredible work. Cannot wait for next july's batch.

Furthermore, some scenes had such incredible low camera positioned camera space, plus very good drawings via ADs corrections, editing never too fast nor too slow, decent background art, great VA voice acting was so well done.

While also hilarious, how yamada whom created her seperate public identity plus private for sasaki via "tayama" which yamada herself do not know them met already in the past, overall both do not realize how they knew each other 8 years ago.

Edit: Also I apologize for mods having to clear up the mess I did via those episode discussion threads created because myself haven't registered yet how here for this anime threads were created for full length 20m episodes which will broadcast next month over what crunchyroll recieved the 6 eps batch segmented in to 12 eps mini series and thanks mods whom deleted those threads.

Man, there is definitely quite a bit of irony with Yamada busting Sa-slow-ski's chops for being so clueless about her identity while she cannot remember that it was him from that scene 8 years ago that was so memorable for her.

I don't know why they went with such a wacky schedule, but I will take it as a positive that I got to watch these first 12 mini episodes early as opposed to later.

And this would be episode 11 and 12, I think.

Okay I only tolerate it because it's the premise of the show but let's not get it twisted. DO NOT SMOKE GUYS! IT'S VERY BAD FOR YOU! If I was Sasaki and I got that scare that I got some kind of actual diagnosis to my lungs for smoking, and it ended up being a mistake, I'd quit smoking anyway. I wouldn't wanna go through that scare again lol. But, again, this is the premise of the show so. Still, #Don'tSmoke.

It seems Yamada used to not be very good at smiling back when she first started her job 8 years ago. When she was.... uh, 16. Yeah, um, and she meet Sasaki when he was in his mid thirties? Oh brother. Yeah this makes the relationship and age gap even weirder, but at least NOW they are both adults so it's okay, I guess. Imma just SLIDEEEE past that and just enjoy this wholesome romance.

And yeah this release schedule is so damn weird.

@IzanaSolos You kidding? 40 isn't old at all. I turned 40 this year and I'm still athletic and gain or lose weight if I want to. I'm in better shape then most 20 year olds. That said, a little bit of genetic luck and keeping fit for a long time helps. As for the smoking he could always cut back or go to vaping. if anything smoking increases the rate of lung cancer from like 3 percent to 5 percent. It's not as drastic as people think. However, do note that it can still have more common and very serious effects like emphysema and COPD, which can lead to an enlarged heart, causing its own problems. A lot of that depends on diet and excercise, genetics, etc. Obviously I would dissuade anyone from picking it up, but if you already have for a long time at the very least make sure you also have an active lifestyle and decent diet. Everybody's got a vice, depends on how you handle it.

When they mentioned a health checkup, I thought, "Finally, this show's gonna talk about how bad smoking is". And then it showed Tayama might actually reveal she's Yamada, I thought, "FREAKING FINALLY." But then came the disappointment. It was a fakeout. And to put the cherry on top, the show instead doubled down. Sasaki is surprisingly healthy for his age? What? Even tho he smokes like a bloody chimney? Lmao. The author must be a huge fan of smoking. Hope they don't get cancer. But it doesn't matter how much propaganda they use. It won't work on me cause I have no intention of ever smoking.

At this point, I don't think the status quo will ever change until the end of the manga or something. I mean, I guess it's fine. The series is still fun. And Sasaki has fully accepted Tayama and Yamada as 2 separate beings. Considering his personality, even if he finds out, it probably wouldn't even be too life-changing for him, as Yamada thinks. He'd just have a good laugh and continue smoking as usual. He does seem to like Tayama more than Yamada now.

The second half of the episode was amazing. Yamada has been working in the same location for 8 years?! And I guess Sasaki was there too at some point. Shame she doesn't realize it was him. It's obvious to the audience. But who even remembers an old customer from 8 years ago? It must be fate that Sasaki started going to that location again. But I wonder if Sasaki remembers Yamada. Probably not.

This was the best episode of the series yet. The schedule and weird cutting episodes in half completely killed this series. It's such a shame. This series surprised me. The story and animation are way better than I expected. I'm at least glad I won't have to wait till August to watch new episodes. But it's still so bad. When the fuck are companies gonna realize batch releases don't work for anime, especially brand new ones? It's like they're experimenting to see who can come up with the worst ways of killing promising anime by releasing them in nonsensical ways.

now to wait till episode 7 comes out.

still confusing which day that's gonna get released. it says the episode 1 gonna get aired in japan on july 9. meaning we have to wait another 6 weeks after that to watch episode 7.

or is it gonna be released on june 17th like other sources say?

This season so far has been very nice. it makes me regret putting off the manga for so long lol. I do wish that the stuff regarding the health of Sasaki was taken a bit more seriously though as so many people do die from smoking as they get cancer, gum disease, etc. I appreciate that the author did highlight that fact though, albeit they kind of copped out by making it seem like Sasaki had a really durable body for his age. I did really like the second part of the episode. I thought it was a good idea how the author clarified that Sasaki didn't help Yamada due to any sort of heroics, and that he was simply tired due to how he was treated at work. All in all, I'm very excited to see where the show goes from here i about a month and hopefully after the run is over I can pick up the manga.

I am enjoying this, the episode format is weird, I thought this was the last episode, but its cool to get Summer anime right now. It will be a much better season than Spring imo.

I can relate to Yamada being into older people, but their situation seems a little unrealistic, but not impossible of course.

@IzanaSolos
This isn’t the schedule for the remaining episodes. It’s just the schedule for when Abema regular members can see the mini episodes. All the mini episodes are available to premium members at the start. We won’t see anything new until TV broadcast releases regular episode 7 in mid August.

To be fair, Sasaki got a health scare on his latest physical and the long term consequences for him are still ahead.

@Kimurah Audience wants nice romance , your idea of "consequences" is puritan scary-mongering, "you can't show characters drinking, smoking, and having sex before marriage without consequences". Do you also think that Bocchi the Rock was bad because it didn't show consequences to Kikuri always getting drunk, or that Botan Kamiina is bad because main cast enjoys alcohol?

Then again, you apparently also think that age gap where the younger person is fully 24 fucking year old is somehow creepy, and that current Yamada is somehow "vulnerable", so you must be one of those zoomer puritans that feels attacked with "micro-aggression" whenever you see a character doing something you don't fully approve. And you are the one accusing others of wanting to see "nothing but an insipid" whatever, truly ironic.

TBH, the 1/2 ep format was jarring at first, but fortunately, the structure of the anime enabled me to get into a rhythm and be able to adapt to it. As a long time manga reader of this series, I knew it didn't have to be full of sakuga, but it looked fine. The strongest points was the screenplay and direction, VA acting, the OST, and the foley work(I could even hear the cigs crackle when they were first lit). In other words, all of it is top level, lol. Can't wait to see the rest of it, so I'll console myself by rewatching it!
