For once, an Earth Star Entertainment published work that doesn't suck? This is new, and novelist Fuurou is proving it with the still rookie animation studio42 for its 2nd main animation work.

The once-warrior who, after a war, has been given the position of Lord to a grassland as far as the eye can see, this is Dias Nezrose's new domain to whoever comes his way to find new subjects, and one such person found trouble with him right away: a young Oni girl who can filter the truth with her color-glowing horn. As far as concerned, Dias's truthfulness, as bold and stringent as he comes, gets dragged away to see her tribe and explain his story from the very beginning, humble beginnings at that of honor and strength. The thing is, despite Alna and her Onikin Tribe, with her mother Moll as chieftain in retaliation against the kingdom that he's called to serve for the wars they fought against mankind, the oni horns prove Dias's innocence that brings them glowing blue with joy, though this is a secrecy he's OK to hold it for their Concealment in his frontier plains...and also living with Alna as a caretaker?

Certainly, there're a lot of things to teach Dias about, with the yurt house and baal livestock, and learning to use the onikin resources to build more yurts. Thankfully, Dias's warrior background certainly got him a horde of black ghees to kill using Matani dust, but being rampant without a plan too is dangerous at that...which to a relief, both Alna and Moll are grateful for this work they call "manliness"...if on the intent towards marriage, sure. Alna even changing her Oni makeup to fit Dias's image while getting much of the jealousy against fellow Oni men, it shows her change towards Dias alright, as they fight an earth dragon that is a turtle with a rather strong shell for defense. To that extent, Dias's battle axe that regenerates when taken damage, it's a long draw that took an armour's break to finally reveal itself for its own demise...and also warrant a marriage, that's a first (and the 2nd show to have a premiere episode marriage proposal epilogue this season, this is going to be a new trend?).

Kaya's 2nd song for the Summer season, and this ED song is much better than the other OP song she created.
Also, an easy spoiler of Dias and Alna's family with their 2 kids to be seen as the series progresses.

This is a VERY promising show, gonna keep my eye out for this!

Didn’t have very high hopes for this one, was originally just here for the sheep. Regardless that was a great first ep, definitely one of the better ones in the season so far.

Alma is super cute, the nomadic oni village is a pretty cool concept and got fleshed out well and quick with the elder’s story. The sheep are adorable!

Really happy they didn’t lay into the CG too hard for the action scenes.

The first half decent cosy anime of the season. Don't expect too much action, just adventures and more sheep.

So Dias gets screwed after the war by getting an open empty plain but there are other beings there in hiding and Alna now has a new manly human beau.
I expect they will deal with the land feud eventually. But a bit too cute for me. I guess I need a horn of truth to screen out all the bad anime so I don't have to watch it!

Ha-ha, such a simp fantasy. Just be brave and strong and women will love you instantly and forever :DDDD

Still, given the medieval setting, it makes a bit of sense.
Certainly more reasonable than all the modern girls falling for the wimpy guy just becuse he's kind and considerate.

She sure changed her tone fast and well she's marrying by the end of episode lol. Imagine having a built in lie detector, what a cheat code. She is the main reason I started this anime so it's nice to see she'll be fun. Anyway I'm off to search where this village is, manliness.

Why the cover is misleading lmao. I thought this is gonna be a gore anime but what I get so far is another village building story.

But either way, again, not sure why the rating is low despite this is being a very chill anime (For now, not sure what's gonna happen since I'm not a source reader)

I assume there will be a timeskip and these 2 already have children judging by the ED animation.

Haha, script sure flipped quick after he killed that half herd, then went spiraling with hearts in her eyes after the turtle. Dias may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but he's certainly manly enough to make up for it!

Foolish king is going to regret shuffling a powerful warrior with strong loyal tendencies off into exile.

Absolutely silly episode, but it was fun.

This went from "looks like generic fantasy slop" to "hol' up!" real fast in the last 5 minutes.

Of course Shion Wakayamas Alna was gonna be real cute.
The emphasis on "manliness" being able to take care of your family is somewhat of a lost art in 2026, so that was oddly refreshing.

Pre-emptive 7/10, will continue to watch.

@EgatammaN True. That cover is trash for what the series actually seems to be, middle aged guy taking a young tribal girl as a wife. lol

Our Man may not have any real subjects for his kingdom, but he found a race of magic Mongols & a new Wife ( he may not yet realize this, her male tribe members DID tho. LOL). Only problem here is I think he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer! Why did you hack at the Turtle dragon's bloody shell all day, instead of trying to find some soft spot or the head??!

Well that escalated quickly. I like how she tells him superficial attributes aren't important in their culture when women look for husbands but her first selling point for Alma is "She is a beauty" 'Don't worry Dias our culture still has a double standard when it comes to women' LOL Anyway seems pretty predictable story wise but Dias and Alma are fun so I'll give it a few more episodes.

Also was it just me or does Alma look a lot like Amoru (including her outfit) from Dusk Beyond the End of the World

A city building anime, and for the ending it already shows it will also be "family building", pretty soon 😁

Already on my list, I want to see how will he progress with his feud of open plains and notihng but grass 😁

Heck, he was given not even a basic workforce to start building a town or whatever, so he could at least start collecting taxes for the kingdom a few years later? Was that really a "reward"? 😅

@Moppit they aren't married yet - in the manga it happens roughly 2 years later. Probably be a major plot of season 2 if it ever gets one.

With all that said there's people in the comments will say otherwise and make a big deal about it.

Everything escalated way too fast. I’m cracking up right now, but at the same time I feel happy, kinda jealous, and I absolutely adore Alna’s cuteness. Like seriously, she’s just too precious.

Honestly amazing- MC is insanely lucky right now. After all the hard work and kindness he showed throughout his life, he was basically blessed with a wife like Alna.

And on top of that, judging by the ending, they even have two super adorable daughters. That’s just peak wholesome- and the funny part is, they already ended up having kids without me even going full simp mode lol

well, i didn't expect her to pull a 180 THAT fast! :O considering their tribe seems to be nomadic herders of 'sheep' with the height of their weaponry bows n arrows... and i haven't seen a beast of burden yet... no horses or oxen or anything bigger than their 'sheep'... i'd guess their transports for baggage are those man-towed carts and they carry everything else on their own backs... so they have to walk or run on-foot everywhere... that magic they use is damn handy though, i wonder what other spells they've got?

his plate armor, giant battle-axe, and ability to kill tons of huge animals and that 'turtle' all by himself... i'm not surprised she was impressed with this 'manliness'. but wowed enough to propose marriage on the spot? i'd guess that 'turtle' was something her people have run and hid from for generations. so he's gotta have godly levels of 'manliness' in her eyes?

well. this one is going to be different than the average high fantasy anime i've watched. :D my curiosity is piqued!

Another manga I read a bit of in the past. It doesn't have great depth, but it has a decent plot and is well told. Looking forward to more of this.

edit: "Also was it just me or does Alma look a lot like Amoru (including her outfit) from Dusk Beyond the End of the World." She does indeed look like Amoru's onee-chan. As to the close similarity, why mess with success?

I've seen the series before but never read it. Was a pretty old series, for the genre, last I checked.

Family simulator type story I guess. There are even elf(?) twin kids in the ending that don't resemble them living with them so probably adopted children or something. Expecting it to be a pretty chill watch overall. Action was pretty meh though.
