like a slower paced tutorial section, but rare interesting themes. nice cultural patterns, worldbuilding.
Dias quite reckless, good fights. more cg but looks fine. wat proposal already, tsundere flip so fast. More fresh mcs designs. way different & better than the misleading poster.

Got a feeling this show is gonna be the hidden gem of the season (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Absolutely love both Dias and Alna...and I hope they do get married, but those sheep looking creatures are by far the cutest things I have ever seen!

Do feel like Dias got the bad end of the stick after the war ended, but it seems like he'll live by his parents' last wishes and survive with Alna.
Wondering what more subjects are gonna join them though?

I look up to this guy a lot, worked hard to accomplish things in life, gets an even more difficult task as a reward, but instead of cursing his fate he immediately feels a sense of duty towards it and vows to protect his people. I'll do my best to be like him. I'd sure like to make some girls swoon over my epic muscles and prowess.

@kurooganeko no, ya gotta stop being so gosh darn ETHNOCENTRIC. this isn't your deal? you don't like it for ___ reasons? then quitcherbitchin, and go entertain yourself elsewhere with something different. quit. watching. anime. if you're going to bust the creatives' balz with such ignorant blatherings.
@KiliianSleipnir I just so happen to have standards and critical thinking skills. Someone who has watched almost 2k anime is probably has too much free time. And where was I ethnocentric? Japanese men are a majority in anime creation and most series have pedo sexualization happening constantly, even when the story and worldbuilding are well writen. Sometimes even woman creators have to add that kind of fanservice to survive in the industry

@kurooganeko too much free time? you gotta job bubba? full time? part time? i do. MOST Americans spend upwards of 12 HOURS a day watching TV. that's just live TV like cable or satellite or broadcast, not streaming smart TVs. i spend 0 on TV, i watch everything on my PC. i stream 80% of my entertainment there. i actually spend 6-8 hours a day entertaining myself, the rest of my day i sleep and work and take care of myself.

when did you get started watching anime??? I got started in 1990. THAT is how i got over OVER 2k titles. my MAL isn't perfect, it doesn't list everything.

got a college degree? i got two. an AS and a BS, and they weren't in underwater basketweaving.

got a 10+ year career under your belt? i've had two.

i don't have standards? wow. i guess i just randomly toss a dart at a piece of paper and watch whatever title the dart happens to hit.

your ENTIRE diatribe was ethnocentric. the whole thing. you ALSO continue to do it. women creators HAVE to add stuff? innteresting. are you a woman creative in Japan? no? are you a male creative in Japan right now? no? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW CRAP!!! you just think you do, because... YOU ARE WATCHING THE FINAL PRODUCTS that's it. you're not in the boardrooms making decisions. you're not in the trenches and the offices doing the work and supervising the people. YOU don't know the actual numbers of the sexes in the Japanese workforce IN GENERAL NATION-WIDE. nor do you know the actual numbers in the otaku industries either. do you know which mangaka and light novel authors are writing under a male or female pen-name? do you know them all? throughout the entirety of Japanese history?

"most series have pedo sexualization happening constantly" yet another LAZY AND HYPERBOLIC STATEMENT! wow. you seriously think you know, but you can't be specific in any way, shape, form or fashion. you don't even know the meaning of the word pedophilia because you're using it WRONG!

seriously, shut up and just go entertain yourself quietly. because your opinions, are all hot air with ZERO depth, substance, or verifiable facts. go stand on some other street-corner and scream your ignorance at the world.

@KiliianSleipnir people can't seem to help but insert themselves into shows, and also bring along their own sensibilities. Can't just leave it as a story and think "ya know, in a world with a wildly inferior level of technology, a nomadic tribe that struggles to survive while also hiding from their enemies may just have a different culture or views on certain things than I do."

Like the whole point of fantasy is that it isn't real. So go wild with it, you're not actually hurting anyone.

This seems like dumb fun.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Oni society seems to be matriarchal and given the context of the rough living conditions it seems the only thing that society sees in men is strength and work ethic, which is kind of a fun reversal, and that the guy with a brain filled with bricks, that is basically all muscle and hard work, fits perfectly into their definition of a perfect husband is hilarious.

Will be interesting to see if he actually manages to get a village of misfits going, given the land seems to be quite resourceful of simple resources for simple living.

I really enjoyed books with how most of the story was calm, focused on characters and everything eventually resolved itself, because Diaz is literally the embodiment of the chad meme. This dude is as charismatic and strong as stupid and an absolute ladykiller as well as bro. With the way the first episode goes, it's going to be a nice anime to watch

Uninspired characters, a cliché and dull ending to the first episode... just another anime to add to the list of bland, run-of-the-mill shows—more of the same, of which there are already plenty.

@rogueclon946 bingo! you're 100% right on every point you made!

fiction/fantasy etc. does need to use some 'elements' of reality or the immersion of the reader/viewer isn't going to happen. but otherwise, go nuts you wacky creatives!

for example, i watched ep1 of Tomb Raider King and was quite surprised the 'negative stuffs' i had heard about it being 'too derivative' and 'a copy/paste of Solo Leveling' were not as prevalent as i had read. sure, it is Korean so there are tons of bits n pieces from SL there in TRK... plus the basic 'reverse isekai stuffs here on Earth' were there. but the big BIG pieces of that first episode's story/worlbuilding/character bios are 'totally flipped 180' from SL. like, the complete opposite. i'm guessing the TRK author read SL and thought to themselves, 'damm that's good. but what if i changed all this...' and makes a list... 'into somethings the exact opposite?' sure, without SL... TRK might not have gotten off the ground... but from what i've read of the Korean webtoon marketplace... those two titles are not the only ones who use basically 'the same stuffs' for multiple years now. not unlike how manga titles share multiple elements across the various genres and age groups and target male/female audiences.

@zwolf12 ahh, i'm unsure because the subs say Chieftain. BUT the voice is Kujira formerly known as Wakako Matsumoto. she's also playing the step-mom in 'Ibitte Konai Gibo to Gishi' this Season. so you might be right. their 'species' may be led by an elderly female.

this isn't unheard of considering multiple tribes of Native Americans had female 'peace chiefs' and only the 'war chiefs' were male. the Cherokee here in the American Southeast used to have their 'lineages' for inheritance and ownership of animals and personal property traced via the women/moms and not who a child's father was. so the menfolk really only owned a few horses, their tools, weapons, and sports gear. you never want to play 'ball' like the Cherokee menfolk used to, dying and compound fractures were normal! a man moved into his wife's home in their tribe, or if they were a young couple the wife's family built the home for her and the husband was 'just a tenant'.

@KiliianSleipnir I don't have to get into that kind of comparing with you or anyone because is simply not about that. You are simply overheated about this whole thing. Did I pinch something to close to your own circumstances? Because you were the one to feel annoyed by my first comment, that shows how much free time you have in your hand. Lurking around MAL comment sections and getting a tantrum out of the things yo uread. I don't even need to know what those alleged 2 carrers of your are. Were? Anyway. A loud baby in the body of an adult.
Also I have seen enough anime showing underskirt shots of underaged characters to know there is not at all small audience to which those cuts are made for. Not to mention the trope of super old woman in the body of a literal child and the kind of NSFW images and figures that are made of them. But also the crazy amound of unclear aged female characters dating male ones who look older, just like this one. I dont to pretend to know an entire number of workforce to be able to see things. You yourself most likelly don't even know either and I have zero interest in getting to know you actually can back that up. Now spare me and go get angy somewhere else.

i know i've got the facts behind me, you've got nothing. not even the peanut gallery here in this thread is supporting you. you're just spouting hotbutton hyperbolic bullcrap clickbait statements with zero facts to back them up with. of which in the past 30+ years i've been watching anime and discussing it on the internet. i've heard and read everything you've said thousands upon thousands of times. and it is not correct or true or even approaching those two states now or anytime in those three decades. they're so obviously wrong in every single way, i'm frankly surprised you've got enough guts to even attempt to say them.

i'll chalk it up to the anonymity of the internet. because if you were sitting in an otaku discussion group IRL? you'd be destroyed face to face by every. body. sitting/standing. there. item by item and point by point. and probably asked to leave at some time and never show your face in that gathering again.

sure, you can say whatever is within the rules of MAL that you wish. but nobody is going to believe it, because you're wrong.

So, a man who can't even tell left from right is suddenly given a territory because of his achievements in some unnamed war, only to discover that the king's real plan was probably to get rid of a hostile tribe. I see... so the story is already over?
Sometimes I genuinely don't understand how some authors approach storytelling. I have absolutely no interest in a character's lore when all they do is dump it through a few brief flashbacks. Who is this 40-year-old Japanese man with a Western appearance on my screen? I couldn't care less who he is or what he does, and I feel the same about this girl with a magical horn that beeps whenever someone tells a lie. It's completely uninteresting.
The idea of building kingdoms or civilizations in a fantasy world is genuinely brilliant when it's backed by a promising narrative, but I just don't see that here. It'll probably end up having about as much substance as a typical school story, or something like Isekai Nonbiri Nouka, where fantasy mostly exists as an excuse to explain contextless events or to cover the author's lack of creativity in both minor and major details.

Certainly the manliest anime of the season.

Alna falling for Dias because of his excessive manliness doesn't get old. But in the setting it does make sense just as Mall said.

The age gap is bothersome to say the least, so seeing them with two kids in the outro was quite disturbing. Honestly, she looks like a kid and the guy looks to be in his 30s. The constant masculinity affirmations seem really dated and annoying and the main female character immediately needing to be protected like she doesn't have the ability to literally disappear just plays into the good ol' stupid gender roles.

I've watched episode 1 and I think the animation feels incredibly lazy. Even the animation for moving forward requires CGI. The fighting animation is also quite poor and lazy, which shows how cheap this series is. The character designs are quite good, the story is interesting, and the background music is also good. Japanese anime these days feels incredibly lazy.

@Lukabuu too bad, you jumped ship way early. might want to use 'The Three Episode Rule' in the future. because by episode 3? his 'wife' has consistently shown in multiple situations from ep1-3 that she is highly useful, intelligent, resourceful, and doesn't need to be 'protected like a glass statuette'.

the age gap? has his age been exactly mentioned in the first two episodes? you're going by appearances, with drawn characters instead of factual statements in the show? not a good idea.

the outro, since you didn't watch further into the show wasn't exactly obvious with the relationship between him, his 'wife', and the two little kids. once again you dumped it too early to learn what was really going on there.

constant masculinity affirmations? that's her culture, if you had bothered to keep going you would have learned that.

kneejerk reactions are seldom correct. but hey, it's your entertainment time. do with it as you wish, just know that you were pretty wrong with what you wrote right here on July 17th.

@kurooganeko mhm. you've got nothing except yet another hotbutton hyperbolic term "pedo". you don't know a thing and you cling to your ignorance like a kid with their security blanket. i've got the higher ground simply because, i do. nothing you've said has any grounding in reality. you've yet to support anything you've said with a single iota of proof. not even a grain of sand's worth. i don't have to give you anything, i don't have to cite anything except common sense, decency, logic, reason, and a bucketload of more years of experience in general life, education, training, and subjects specific to the otaku industries of Japan. if you can't educate yourself, or don't even bother to due to your idea that you already know everything, why should i bother to educate you myself? i've tried to make you see the error of your ways, but if you're continuing on your path... well then, i'm done with you. ignorance is bliss as the saying goes, now off with you and be blissful elsewhere.

@Lukabuu well considering you gave it one episode, you don't have a leg to stand on to start with. glad you did your research though about their age gap. shrug, not even 200 years ago Europeans got married and had kids at 15. folks who were 20+ and weren't in a relationship were not the norm. THAT was the norm for oh... 10,000+ years of human recorded history around the world. the modern concepts don't all apply here as it is an entirely fictional and fantasy/magical STORY, not real life. i'm not defending the show, i'm just pointing out that your assumptions were in error on multiple points because you didn't give the show a chance. nor did you do your due diligence in looking things up before writing.

also, you throw that pedophile word around like you know what it means. by what you just wrote? you don't. you haven't even approached the correct definition of it. do look it up someday both clinically and in a normal dictionary.

if that is her culture, who am i to question it? a sociologist? an anthropologist? she is obviously consenting, her entire TRIBE is consenting, her tribal leader (a female leader BTW if you didn't look that up, so they're a matriarchy of some sort) also felt that it was a good match. what was the guy going to do about it in the first place? alienate the ONLY people he had contact with in the local area at the start? additionally, they're the native residents and knew everything and anything he needed to not only survive in the area but begin thriving. they provided housing, food, herd animals, tools, as well as a marketplace where he could begin to understand the economics of the area.

if you didn't like the show right off the bat? that's quite allright by me. you do you. but just realize that when you start writing like you know what's up in a public forum and you have an entire dearth of knowledge? it isn't a good idea.

Most of what you said I'd agree with, but c'mon, you have to know that is wildly inaccurate.

If he was going to marry Aihan or Senai I'd say yea, pedo show. But Alna? Have you seen Alna? She is definitely not prepubescent lol

@Strahan yeah that one i messed up, i used the total number not the live number. i included the streaming VHS/DVD/BR/4K tapes disks the whole enchilada, the entire 7 course meal. yeah my bad for messing that one up. i had the stats. i read the stats. annnd i used the wrong ones.

yep. as is the norm for the mouth breathers on the internet... kurooganeko can't even use Google to look up the clinical definition of a disorder and utilize it correctly. i would definitely need a visual representation chart of all the females of every age in her tribe including notations on which one had carried a child or had not, married single divorced widowed multiple marriages etc. then i could compare Alna to her tribe in multiple ways. but without that? shrug. using my preconceptions isn't correct. to me, she seems slightly underdeveloped physically. but her lifestyle environment society species etc. i don't know enough to say much.

Very good first episode. Good job Dias, a land, and a wife in the first episode.

In fact, Alna proposes to Dias as early as the first episode; the narrative is condensed, but the process itself is not. Throughout the episode, her change in perception follows a specific progression: the soul assessment reveals a cyan hue, indicating he is free of malice and capable of bringing happiness; his solo hunt of a black yak herd demonstrates both his combat prowess in the wild and his capacity to shoulder familial responsibilities; and his subsequent slaying of the earth dragon—along with his prioritization of Alna’s safety—signifies that he has brought her into his shared narrative.

A good start. Love these anime that focus on someone building their domain/kingdom. Im surprised this doesnt have the romance tag with how much romance focus there was in this first episode.

Also nice to hear a new voice for the MC. I know he does the narrator for Spy X Family but thats all I know him from. Also, older MC hell yeah. We need more anime with mature/older main characters.

@kurooganeko Right, and it has its own ick but it's not truly pedophilia. People have taken that word to refer to any minor, but that's not what it means. She's a bit too old to fall into the pedo bucket. Ephebophilia would be more accurate but very few people know that term so they just group any young person into pedophilia even if inaccurate.

I know; it's splitting hairs, but I like accuracy when referring to sickos lol. Though really so far the MC doesn't treat that marriage at all seriously more like "uhh ok if you say so" so good for him lol.
