The ending saved the story by having him end up with the correct girl. Though I do wish the events leading up to it had been different.

The ending was awful. I feel like he stayed with Hina out of pity when I would have loved for him to choose her again after everything she did for him. It was a sad ending, but I'm glad he ended up with the right girl.

The ending was fantastic I don't get what's wrong with it.

Did we not read the same manga? I know what I read was peak romance with a good ending. I don't know where any of the ending hate comes from, but that's just me.

This ending is one of the worst piece of fiction I've ever read. You build the entire fucking story for natsumi to be getting over his love which shouldn't be accepted and in the final he just dumps the girl who did almost everything to him to stay with that bitch who nobody supported their relationship and suddenly everyone accepts it. Not only that is stupid but also so much disrespect to Rui after spending years following him to protect and help Natsumi, a human garbage.

@Andycane48 Your argument is like saying the Game of Thrones finale isn't bad because they killed the zombies in the end, without mentioning how stupidly they did it or how terribly written the whole battle was...

For the last 20 chapters before Hina's accident, Natsuo showed that the woman he loved was Rui, not Hina anymore (she was his first love, but he had moved on). His marriage to Hina at the end was a plot convenience, and the rushed and terrible way it was written makes it seem like Natsuo married her out of pity. In real life, a marriage that starts like that becomes toxic and ends terribly...

All of this could have been avoided if, when Natsuo travels to help Rui with her bullying problems, instead of returning to start a relationship with her and getting her pregnant, he had told her he still loved Hina. But because the author was very incompetent, or more likely, changed who Natsuo ended up with at the last minute.

I went in to the manga with super low expectations for basically everything because everyone said it sucked, especially the ending. So when I got to the end and everyone was happy and they'd all achieved their dreams, I was satisfied with what I had read. I just don't get the hate for the series or the ending. Might be different if I were to reread, or I might prefer it, like I'm doing with my second read through of Steel Ball Run or second watch of Akame Ga Kill. I personally like it cause my expectations were low and it surpassed them. The bright side of having zero hype.
