Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudou

Under the belief that the omnipotent god Mitama will come to save him, Yukito Urabe participates in a ritual to become the new leader of his father's cult. But when the boy drowns during the ritual, he wishes to be reborn in a world without gods or religion.

Reawakening in a completely different world devoid of spirituality. He meets a deviant girl named Aruaru, who introduces him to her village. However, his idyllic image of this world's society is short-lived when he witnesses a public group suicide and learns of the country's end-of-life system: at any moment, the government may order any citizen to die.

Aruaru and her sister are forcibly taken for execution soon after, prompting Yukito to rush to their rescue—but to no avail. In a moment of desperation, Yukito recalls his father's teachings and utters a prayer for Mitama to save them. Seemingly answering his call, a little girl descends from the sky and annihilates everyone who harmed Yukito and his friends. To Yukito's surprise, the girl introduces herself as Mitama.

There are anime that make you cry, there are anime that make you think deeply and then there are anime that scream "WHAT THE FUCK AM I WATCHING"

Trying to explain Kamikatsu feels impossible because the anime sounds like it shouldn't work.

-STORY: WHAT THE HECK AM I WATCHING??!!
The story follows Yukito Urabe the son of a religious cult leader who wants nothing to do with gods or faith. After a ritual goes wrong he dies and gets transported to another world. WOW NICE A TYPICAL ISEKAI STUFF. Here's where you are wrong, In this world there's no god, no religion, and no belief. Then Yukito ... accidentally summons Mitama a real goddess, and the guy who spent his entire life rejecting religion now has to do the one thing he never expected CREATE A RELIGION.

- ANIMATION SO BAD THAT ITS GOOD
I genuinely don't know what happened here. Kamikatsu is BUILT different. There are moments where the anime looks completely fine. Nothing amazing, looks generic but nothing that makes you question reality. But then out of nowhere you get hit with some of the most bizarre looking CGI you've ever seen.

THE BOAR. IT DOESNT EVEN LOOK LIKE A BOAR.

Let's look at the LEGENDARY tractor scene. They really looked at a tractor scene and decided hey "You know what this needs? A little bit of anime." They basically took footage that someone recorded themselves farming in real life, slapped an anime character's face onto it and called it a day. I don't know who looked at this scene during production and said "Yes, this is PERFECT"

WHAT.

The funniest part is how seriously the scene is presented. It's the kind of scene where you stop thinking "Why does it look so bad" to "It's so ridiculous that it's perfect" And that's the charm of Kamikatsu. The animation itself becomes part of the comedy. Most anime need a good script, timing or funny dialogue to create a memorable moments. Kamikatsu doesn't even try, they just throw something completely absurd onto the screen and let the audience deal with it.

- FINAL THOUGHTS
Kamikatsu is more than just an anime. It is a mess, its ridiculous, and a confusing mess. It's the type of anime where you finish an episode instead of contemplating of how good it is, you just immediately turn off the screen. But that's exactly why I love it. In a world where many anime try so hard to be serious, deep, and meaningful Kamikatsu just completely loses control and somehow finds its own identity.

It is stupid
It is chaotic
It is weird

A normal person might ask "what the hell am I even watching?
and my answer is "I don't know, but keep watching"

Does it need season 2? HELL NO
Will it be entertaining? HELL NO

Nothing will surpass season 1 and season 2 is not needed. This is plenty enough.

Mixed Feelings

Kaminaki Sekai no Kamisama Katsudou (KamiKatsu) is a messy, undeniably flawed anime that still manages to be a surprisingly enjoyable watch. While it currently sits at a 5/10, it is a series built on fantastic ideas that are ultimately held back by their execution.

Let’s get the obvious out of the way: the animation is poor, and it actively hinders the viewing experience. Between the general lack of polish and the famously atrocious CGI—specifically those bizarrely rendered monsters and farm equipment that became a meme for all the wrong reasons—it can be genuinely tough to look at. Beyond the visuals, the pacing often feels rushed. While ... the sheer absurdity of the show is a huge draw, grounding the narrative with just a little bit of internal logic would have easily bumped up the rating.

Despite these hurdles, the core story is incredibly interesting and easy to get invested in. The world-building shines, particularly regarding the Archons. Without getting into spoiler territory, the implication that each Archon shares a dark past directly tied to their specific powers is a brilliant concept that gives the narrative some much-needed depth.

Furthermore, the unapologetic obscurity of the humor makes the series entirely unique. The show leans heavily into dirty jokes and chaotic, absurd comedy. While it’s easy to see why some viewers disliked the sheer volume of it and preferred a cleaner approach, that exact weirdness is what gives the anime its identity. If you can match its wavelength, the jokes land perfectly and are legitimately funny.

KamiKatsu is a prime example of a great concept buried under rushed production. It leaves you wishing it had simply been made better, but the foundation is undeniably there. If a second season ever gets greenlit and the studio manages to execute it properly, this series has the raw potential to jump straight to a 10/10.

Quick review here,

I honestly don't know what went wrong with this anime. Maybe the source material wasn't the best, or the lack of founding, but something went terribly wrong.

For starters: the world is actually kind of interesting. Without any spoilers, I would describe it as a post-apocalyptic disztopia. The people are heavily supressed, and everything is under the emperors control. Even the thoughts of people. Such an interesting setting to use, but it got so little sceentime, it's so sad. The story is quite good as well. A power vacuum occours, and many people tries to gather themselves power via the power system of the ... world. However, just as the setting, the main story didn't get much time either. Not to mention the pacing, which is beyond horrible.

The characters are the point where I completely give up, I can't even sugarcoat it. They are bad, inrcedibly clishe and plain. Even though it's technically not a harem, 90% of the characters are women, and they've got a girl every "taste", and a ton of fanservice with that. I'm usually not mad about it, but there were so much more to do with the story and plot, it's just so sad.

The animation is also deceiving. Watching the first episode it may look like this is a higher quality anime, but soon, the ugliest CGI monsters start chasing the main character. At the end of the day the main point looks fine, but the monsters are just so incredibly ass, it's laughable.

Conclusion: don't watch it, it's not worth your time. Unless you want to laugh at the previusly mentioned CGI.
