Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu Part 2

After the mysterious mana calamity, Rudeus Greyrat and his fierce student Eris Boreas Greyrat are teleported to the Demon Continent. There, they team up with their newfound companion Ruijerd Supardia—the former leader of the Superd's Warrior group—to form "Dead End," a successful adventurer party. Making a name for themselves, the trio journeys across the continent to make their way back home to Fittoa.

Following the advice he received from the faceless god Hitogami, Rudeus saves Kishirika Kishirisu, the Great Emperor of the Demon World, who rewards him by granting him a strange power. Now, as Rudeus masters the powerful ability that offers a number of new opportunities, it might prove to be more than what he bargained for when unexpected dangers threaten to hinder their travels.

Compared to the first season, this season made me completely fall in love with the anime and pushed me straight to read the light novel even before season 2 came out. Honestly, Mushoku Tensei is a step ahead of the vast majority of anime I've seen in terms of its word-building and character development. I also want to clarify something: there's a lot of criticism regarding the protagonist, and I can understand them... but you have to understand that Mushoku Tensei is a work that speaks to us about the imperfection of making mistakes and knowing how to get back up and live your life ... to the fullest. Rudeus is the perfect protagonist for a work that speaks to imperfection precisely because he himself knows he makes mistakes, he knows he's not the best model of a human being, but he demonstrates on more than one occasion that he's not a bad person and that he would give his life for the people he cares about.
Speaking of the animation, this season has very few problems in that area; the others suffer much more from having to reduce the budget while waiting for more eventful seasons. Before approaching this work, know that it literally follows the life of Rudeus so it is normal that sometimes it slows down and it is normal that sometimes it is bloody to the point of breaking your heart, I loved this season because more than all the others it brings Rudeus in front of mistakes and disappointments in an imaginary world whose greatest difficulties are sometimes precisely personal relationships because even in a world governed by magic we are small in front of ourselves.

Mixed Feelings

The 2nd part of the 1st season of Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu shows us more about of the already well-known adventurer party called “Dead End”, formed by Rudeus Greyrat, Eris Boreas and Ruijerd Superdia after the catastrophe named as "Teleporting Incident". This cour has improved a lot and is better done than the first part, but it still makes the same mistakes. Curious? Read my review for more.


Audiovisual: 8

The animation and scenario are impeccable as always and we got more OSTs than the previous cour (more of Yuiko Oohara's ethereal voice, amazing!), though I noticed more jaw-dropping scenes with some action packed here.
However, ... I will give it an 8 because there are even more unnecessary ecchi scenes when characters like Elinalise were introduced in the anime and because of the disgusting scene at the beginning of episode 5, these are the reasons why this criterion doesn't have a score of 10.


Characters: 5

1. The original cast: Practically nothing has changed in the "Dead End" trio: Rudeus remains a pervert (excluding the fact that he has a peculiar new eye), Eris is still aggressive and annoying, and Ruijerd… well, he's bald now.
- Focusing more on Rudeus, this aspect about the characters still has a low rating just because of what he did at the very end of the season (no spoilers) and strangely he became more foolish in this cour, going too far in certain moments.
- Eris had more focus at the end of this season and the plot-twist made people start to judge this girl, however, criticizing Rudeus instead of her would be more coherent.
- About Paul, who appeared more times here, he still is a hateful character, but regardless, this man finally learned how to be a better father and the scene when he hugs Rudeus is very emotional and that was the best episode so far.
- Roxy made some great appearances and has now teamed up with Elinalise and Talhand (who I'll talk about later) as they search for Rudeus' mother, who disappeared in the Incident. This young woman even had a beautiful episode where she reunites with her parents.

We had less participation of characters like Ghislaine and Lilia, but it didn't affect totally the plot.

2. The new characters: Surprisingly, a wide variety of characters appeared as the episodes progressed, some are interesting, others are boring.
- Starting with those who Roxy teamed up with, Talhand and Elinalise were previously at Paul Greyrat's party and they're also researching for Rudeus's mother. While Talhand is a gentle dwarf who vaguely resembles Eisen from Sousou no Frieren, Elinalise Dragonroad is one of the most nonsense characters created by the author: she has a weird disease that leads her to an insatiable need to have sexual intercourse with multiple men. Perhaps a useless character and could easily be discarded from the story.
- Geese is a monkey-like guy who got arrested with Rudeus in the Doldia tribe for a random reason. However, he showed that this anime has a lot to deliver with better characters. As Paul's partner, Geese played an incredible role talking to him about his relationship with Rudeus.
- Orsted is the Dragon God who is the main antagonist of this cour, appearing in the "2nd turning point", he also performed very well and motivated me to continue watching this anime hoping for better plot-twists forward.
- Zanoba Shirone is a nobleman from the homonymous kingdom with an absurd strength. However, he is another flat and horribly made character who immediately became Rudeus's disciple after revealing that he has a crazy figure fetish and is another degenerate who worships Roxy as much as his brother, Pax, who is the only one to be considered an antagonist unlike him.
- There were many other characters like the minor antagonist and smuggler Gallus Cleaner, the loli Demon Emperor named Kishirika Kishirisu, and Nanahoshi, the mysterious girl who was with Orsted. They had a small but not insignificant contribution to the plot, but we can't have a formal opinion about them yet.


Development: 6

This time there were many watchable episodes, with lots of action and tension, followed by a solid progression. If MAL didn't separate this first season into two cours, I would rate this show higher (read my review of the first cour for more), because it felt more like a second season than a second part.

However, the penultimate episode almost ended my hopes, because of Rudeus and his perversion. There were some other pitiful moments that proved his stupidity (for example: the way he was arrested twice, in the Doldia tribe and in the Shirone Kingdom, for silly reasons), but he is so lucky that a random character always appears out of nowhere and saves the day for him.

Disregarding these issues, episode 6 was the best I've watched so far, which means that Mushoku Tensei could be a much less criticized show if it avoided all the controversies. The way Paul and Rudeus talked and Geese acted as a helper was exceptional and if there were more episodes like this, I might even think about recommending this show to someone with a smile on my face.
Another well done episode was when the "turning point 2" happened, without giving spoilers, this one was full of suspense and action, contrasting with the penultimate episode I mentioned above.

Summarizing the positive and negative points, what's expected is that Rudeus, after FINALLY witnessing the real pain, has a great development from now on to show us a wonderful 2nd season.


Worldbuilding: 10

This aspect still deserves the maximum score, because like I said above, there were a lot of OSTs this time and if you've already noticed and/or read my review about the previous entry, the intro changes as the same as the kingdom.

But what was more incredible is that the kingdom called Shirone resembles the Thailand from our world. Great to see that such a peculiar country was referenced here in Mushoku Tensei. Every detail like the buildings, the streets and other elements of this exotic environment were perfectly done by Studio Bind again.


TL;DR
Analyzing the pros and cons:

- What went right:
1. More action and suspense;
2. More great episodes;
3. Emergence of some good characters;
4. Amazing plot-twist.

- What went wrong:
1. Many scenes of sexual innuendo (always involving Elinalise) and fanservice;
2. Rudeus practically didn't develop;
3. Some predictable moments.


Average score: 7.25 -> 7

Conclusion: The 2nd part is better in many ways, though it still has the same flaws. If you liked the previous cour, this one will exceed your expectations, but on the other hand, this sequel is not recommended if you think Rudeus has a lot of progress here.

People talk about the perversion of this show like it actually matters, dude its a fantasy get over it, you wanna know what I care about? The story, the character development, the pacing, the growth, which all are non existent, if the writers spent half as much time invested in actually making Rudy grow and learn as they did with world development and other characters maybe this show would actually be as good as people make it out to be, Mushoku Tensei is super overrated and it is likely because of how ecchi it is and because so many people relate to how much of ... a perverted pessimist Rudy is.
